  • '4 Seasons' Flinders Cotton 8ply 50g: MC - 10 (12) balls, 1 ball each of 14 contrasting colours.
  • A 4.00mm crochet hook or size required to give correct tension.
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure.

TENSION

Basic Square (rounds 1 to 6incl) measures 13cm, using a 4.00mm hook.

INSTRUCTIONS

BASIC SQUARE

Using 4.00mm hook, make 4ch, join with a sl st to form a ring.

1st round - 5ch, [(3tr, 2ch) 3 times, 2tr] into ring, sl st in 3rd ch at beg.

2nd round - Sl st to sp, 5ch, 3tr, 1ch, in same sp, * (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) in next sp (corner sp), 1ch, rep from * twice, 2tr in sp at beg, sl st in 3rd ch.

3rd round - Sl st in sp, 5ch, 3tr in same sp, * 1ch, 3tr into next sp, 1ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into next corner sp, rep from * twice, 1ch, 3tr in next sp, 1ch, 2tr in sp at beg, sl st in 3rd ch.

4th round - Sl st in sp at beg, 5ch, 3tr in same sp, * (1ch, 3tr into next sp) twice, 1ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into next corner sp, rep from * twice, (1ch, 3tr into next sp) twice, 1ch, 2tr in sp at beg, sl st in 3rd ch.

5th round - Sl st in sp, 5ch, 3tr in same sp, * (1ch, 3tr into next sp) 3 times, 1ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into next corner sp, rep from * twice, (1ch, 3tr into next sp) 3 times, 1ch, 2tr in sp at beg, sl st in 3rd ch.

6th round - Sl st in sp, 5ch, 3tr in same sp, * (1ch, 3tr into next sp) 4 times, 1ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into next corner sp, rep from * twice, (1ch, 3tr into next sp) 4 times, 1ch, 2tr in 5ch sp at beg, sl st in 3rd ch at beg.

7th round - Sl st in sp, 5ch, 3tr in same sp, * (1ch, 3tr into next sp) 5 times, 1ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into next corner sp, rep from * twice, (1ch, 3tr into next sp) 5 times, 1ch, 2tr in sp at beg, sl st in 3rd ch.

Fasten off.

HALF SQUARE

Using 4.00mm hook, make 3ch, join with a sl st to form a ring.

1st row - 5ch, (3tr, 2ch, 1tr) into ring. Turn.

2nd row - 3ch, * (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into 2ch sp (corner), 1ch, rep from * once, 1tr in 3ch ch. Turn.

3rd row - 4ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into corner sp, 1ch, 3tr in next sp, 1ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into corner sp, 1ch, 1tr in 3rd ch. Turn.

4th row - 3ch, 3tr into 1ch sp, 1ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into corner sp, (1ch, 3tr in next sp) twice, 1ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into corner sp, 1ch, 3tr in next sp, 1tr in 3ch. Turn.

5th row - 4ch, 3tr into 1ch sp, 1ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into corner sp, (1ch, 3tr in next sp) 3 times, 1ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into corner sp, 1ch, 3tr in next sp, 1ch, 1tr in 3ch. Turn.

6th row - 3ch, (3tr into 1ch sp, 1ch) twice, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into corner sp, (1ch, 3tr in next sp) 4 times, 1ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into corner sp, (1ch, 3tr in next sp) twice, 1tr in 3ch.

L and X/L Sizes Only -

7th row - 4ch, (3tr into 1ch sp, 1ch) twice, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into corner sp, (1ch, 3tr in next sp) 5 times, 1ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into corner sp, 1ch, (3tr in next sp, 1ch) twice, 1tr in 3ch.

All Sizes -

Fasten off.

FRONT

A SQUARE (MULTI COLOURED SQUARE)

Using 4.00mm hook and any colour, work rounds 1 to 5 (6) incl as instructed for Basic Squares, changing colours at the end of each round.

Change to MC and work round 6 (7) for Basic Square.

Fasten off.

Make a total of 9 squares.

B SQUARE (MC SQUARES)

Using 4.00mm hook and MC throughout make a total of 3 squares as instructed for Basic Square.

C SQUARE (HALF SQUARES)

Using 4.00mm hook and MC, make 2 half squares.

BACK

SQUARE A (MULTI COLOURED SQUARE)

Using 4.00mm hook and any colour, work rounds 1 to 5 incl as instructed for Basic Squares, changing colours at the each of each round.

Change to MC and work round 6 (7) as instructed for Basic Square.

Fasten off.

Make a total of 9 squares.

FINISHING

Back and Front - Using a flat seam and following diagram for size being made, join squares together, noting the fold lines.

3 strips of 3 x A squares together. Join 3 x B squares together to form a strip, then join to top of A square strip, there should be 4 rows of 3 squares. Repeat for back.

Join 3 x B squares to each side of Front, and then join the side of these squares to each side of back.

Join side edge of a C square to each side of front at neck edge, repeat for back.

SLEEVES

Basic Square - Using 4.00mm hook and MC throughout make a total of 12 (9) squares for each sleeve.

L/XL only -

First Square -Using 4.00mm hook and MC throughout make a total of 3 half squares for each sleeve.

FINISHING

Sleeves - Using a flat seam and following diagram for size being made, join squares so that there is 4 (3) rows of 3 squares. Fold sleeve in half and join seam from wrist to half of last square.

L/XL only -

Join half squares to one edge of sleeves.

JOINING SLEEVES TO FRONT AND BACK

Aligning squares, sew in sleeves, placing unsewn half of squares to top of B square at side of front and back.

SLEEVE BANDS

With RS facing using 4.00mm hook and MC, join yarn to sleeve seam, with a sl st.

1st round - 1ch, work 54 (63) dc evenly around lower edge, sl st in dc at beg.

2nd round - 1ch, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st in dc at beg.

Rep last round twice.

Fasten off.

Rep for other sleeve.

LOWER BAND

With RS facing using 4.00mm hook and MC, join yarn to side edge, with a sl st.

1st round - 1ch, work 144 (168) dc evenly around lower edge, sl st in dc at beg.

2nd round - 1ch, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st in dc at beg.

Rep last round twice.

Fasten off.

NECK BAND

With RS facing using 4.00mm hook and MC, join yarn to side edge, with a sl st.

1st round - 1ch, work 108 (126) dc evenly around neck edge, sl st in dc at beg.

2nd round - 1ch, 1dc in each dc to end, dec over 2 sts at each corner, sl st in dc at beg.

Rep last round once.

4th round - 1ch, * 1dc in each of next 2dc, picot, to end, sl st in dc at beg.
