INSTRUCTIONS

BLANKET

Step 1 - Cut out all flannelette squares and rectangles as required. Arrange the pieces in a 4 x 4 grid (4 columns, 4 rows) on a large flat surface. Use the 4 smaller squares in the centre and the 4 large squares in the outer corners. The rectangular pieces will fill in the sides.

Step 2 - Make 4 panels by sewing the 4 squares in each column together from top to bottom. Press all seams open.

Step 3 - Sew the panels together to make one large patchwork square. Press seams open.

Step 4 - Lay the patchwork wrong side up on a large surface.

Step 5 - Using the Quilting Square ruler, place the 45-degree line 3 ΒΌ inches along the side of the fabric from a corner. Cut triangle off. Repeat for each corner.

Step 6 - Press 2cm (1/2 inch) fabric over on each of the 4 long sides.

Step 7 - To mitre each corner, fold the corner in half (right sides together) along the short diagonal edge, pin and sew a short seam, sewing over the folded edges. Press mitred seam open.

Step 8 - Turn right side out and press corners. Place right side down on a large surface.

Step 9 - Place minky dot fabric right side up on top of flannel patchwork, tucking the edges under the flannel 'pocket' edge. Smooth into place and pin around folded edge of flannel.

Step 10 - Top stitch through all layers.

PILLOWCASE

Step 1 - Place flannelette right side up on table.

Step 2 - Fold under 1cm on left hand end (short side), press. Fold under another 1cm and press. Top stitch along folded edge to secure. Fold under 15cm more and press.

Step 3 - Fold minky dot fabric in half and attach to right hand end of flannelette.

Step 4 - With the flannelette right side up, fold fabric in half so that the minky end meets the folded edge. Unfold the flannel edge and fold back over the top of the minky section. Pin along the 2 long edges, pinning minky and flannel overlap in place. Sew the 2 edges through all thicknesses.

Step 5 - Turn right side out through the flap. Press flannel section. Do not iron minky.
