WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- 'Bella Baby' Baby Bliss Merino 8ply 2 x 50g balls.
- 1 pair each 3.25mm and 4mm knitting needles or sizes required to give correct tension
- Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure
SIZE
Fits Head (approx) cm: 52 (Toddler), 54 (Child)
TENSION
22 sts x 30 rows to 10cm over patt, using 4mm needles.
INSTRUCTIONS
BEANIE (worked sideways)
Using 4mm needles, cast on 35 (39) sts.
Beg Patt -
1st row (RS) - Knit.
2nd row - Purl.
3rd row - Sl 1, M1, knit to last 2 sts, K2tog ... 35 (39) sts.
4th row - Purl.
5th row - Sl purlways, M1, purl to last 2 sts, P2tog ... 35 (39) sts.
6th row - Knit.
7th row - As 5th row.
8th row - As 6th row.
9th row - As 3rd row.
10th row - As 4th row.
11th row - As 3rd row.
12th row - As 4th row.
Rows 5 to 12 incl form patt for rem. Cont in patt until left side edge (long edge) of work measures (approx) 44 (48) cm from beg, ending with a 9th row. Cast off purlways.
BRIM
With RS facing and using 3.25mm needles, knit up 97 (103) sts evenly along long side edge of work (edge without the slip st).
1st row(WS) - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.
2nd row - K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1. Last 2 rows form rib. Cont in rib until work measures 10cm, ending with a 1st row. Cast off loosely in rib.
FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join diagonal cast on and cast off edges of patt section and side edges of brim tog to form diagonal back seam, reversing seam on brim for 5cm from lower edge. Run a gathering st along short side edge (sl st edge) of Beanie, draw up tightly to form crown. Fasten off securely. Turn brim to RS.
