What should a party invitation say?

When sending out party invitations, here's what each invitation should say to make sure that all your guests know all the information they need:

• If it's just them invited or if they are allowed to bring a guest along.
• The date and time the party will take place. It's also a great idea to include the time it will finish.
• The dress code, such as what theme the party will be and what to/what not to wear.
• Where the party will be held and how to get there.
• An RSVP deadline (if required).
• A brief description of the event and if guests are required to bring something along.

How long should you wait before sending party invitations?

It all depends on what type of event you are holding. For formal events such as weddings, invitations are sent out around one year in advance. For other special events such as an 18th birthday party, a couple of months gives you enough time to plan the party and ensure guests can clear a spot in their calendars.

For informal events like a backyard pool or beach party, a few weeks should be enough time to ensure everyone can make it. If it's a costume party, it might be a good idea to send the invitation cards out at least one month before, as finding a particular costume might take more time for your guests.
