What is card stock?
Card stock or card stock paper is thicker than standard writing or printing paper. Typically used for scrapbooking, business cards or place cards, its broad application is for anything that requires more durability than regular paper as well as more flexibility than cardboard.
How to print on cardstock
It's possible to print onto cardstock with an inkjet or laser printer at home, and is a great way to add a professional touch to your paper crafting efforts. Ensure you change the relevant settings to work with 'thick paper' or 'cardstock' so the printer adjusts the feed method to accommodate paper with a greater GSM. It's also a good idea to adjust the quality settings to a high quality or higher DPI than standard printing. This will aid in producing crisp images and text on the slightly more textured cardstock surface.
How thick is card stock?
The thickness of paper, cardstock and cardboard is usually measured by weight. The unit of measurement for paper thickness is GSM, which stands for grams per square metre. The higher the GSM, the thicker the paper or card is. Card stock is typically between 135 GSM and 300 GSM. As a reference, standard printer paper is around 80 GSM.
