WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • 'BABY WONDER' 4ply MC (grey) x 1, C1 (red) x 1, C2 (yellow) x 1, C3 (blue) x 1, 100g ball
  • 1 pair 3.00mm knitting needles or size needed for correct tension, scissors, yarn needle, tape measure, hobby fill.

13.5 sts x 18 rows to 5cm over stocking st, using 3.00mm needles and 2 strands of yarn together

Note: This monster, is knitted using 2 strands of yarn together throughout, so when changing colour always use 2 strands of yarn together.

BODY (make 2)

Using 3.00mm needles and 2 strands of MC together, cast on 50 sts. Working in stocking st, beg with a knit row, work 6 rows. Cont in stocking st in stripes of 6 rows each, C2, C3, C4. Rep last 24 rows once. Change to MC for rem. Work 4 rows.

Next Row: K1, * K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 26 sts. Purl 1 row.

Next Row: K1, * inc in next st, rep from * to last st, K1. Work 11 rows.

Shape top of Head

Dec one st at each end of next and foll alt rows 3 times in all ... 44 sts. Dec one st at each of every row until 34 sts rem. Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 4 rows ... 18 sts. Cast off rem sts.

LEGS (make 2)

Using 3.00mm needles and 2 strands of MC together, cast on 30 sts. Work in stripes of 6 rows each, MC, C3, C2 then C1. Rep last 24 rows once. Change to MC for rem. Work 6 rows.

Shape Foot

Note: When turning take yarn under needle and onto otherside of work, slip next st onto right hand needle, take yarnunder needle and back into original position, slip st backonto left hand needle, then turn and proceed as instructed.This avoids holes in work.

Row 1: K10,turn.

Row 2 and foll Alt Rows: Purl.

Row 3: K9, turn.

Row 5: K8, turn.

Row 7: K7, turn.

Row 9: K6, turn.
Row 11: K5, turn.

Row 13: K4, turn.

Row 15: K3 turn.

Row 17: K2, turn.

Row 19: Kurl to end.

Row 21: P10, turn.

Row 22 and foll Alt Rows: Knit.

Row 23: P9, turn.

Row 25: P8, turn.

Row 27: P7, turn.

Row 29: P6, turn.

Row 31: P5, turn.

Row 33: P4, turn.

Row 35: P3 turn.

Row 37: P2, turn.

Row 38: Knit to end. Work 33 rows.

Shape Toe

Next Row: K1, * K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 16 sts. Purl 1 row.

Next Row: K1, * K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 9 sts. Break yarn off, tread through rem sts and secure.

ARMS (make 2)

Using 3.00mm needles and MC, cast on 8 sts.

Row 1: Inc in every st to end ... 16 sts.

Row 2: Purl.

Row 3: Inc in every st to end ... 32 sts. Work 9 rows.

Next Row: K2, * K2tog, K1, rep from * to end ... 22 sts. Work 3 rows. Working in 2 rows each, C1, C2, C3 and MC, work 32 rows. Change to MC for rem.

Next Row: K6, (K2tog) 5 times, K6 ... 17 sts. Purl 1 row. Cast off.

EARS (make 2)

Using 3.00mm needles and MC, cast on 4 sts.

Row 1: Inc in every st to end ... 8 sts.

Row 2 and 4: Purl.

Row 3: Inc in every st to end ... 16 sts.

Row 5: K1, inc in next st, * K2, inc in next st, rep from * to last 2 sts, K2 ... 21 sts. Work 7 rows.

Next Row: K1, * K2tog, K2 rep from * to end ... 16 sts. Purl 1 row.

Next Row: K1, * K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 9 sts. Work 3 rows. Cast off.

EYES (make 2)

Using 3.00mm needles and C2, cast on 20 sts.

Row 1: Knit. Change to C3.

Row 2: K2tog to end ... 10 sts.

Row 3: K2tog to end ... 5 sts. Break yarn off, thread through rem sts and secure.

TEETH (make 2)

Using 3.00mm needles and C1, cast on 5 sts. Knit 6 rows. Cast off.

TO MAKE UP

We recommend using mattress st to sew up your monster. Join front and back together, leaving a small opening at the bottom, fill evenly with hobby fill and close opening. Join arm and leg seams, leaving top open, fill lightly with hobby fill. Having seam at the back of the arm or leg, join top openings.

Sew legs to bottom of body placing leg at side edge. Sew arms to sides of body at shoulders. Join ear seams and fill lightly with hobby fill and sew to either side of head. Join side edges of eyes and sew in position to face. Sew teeth in position, using C1 sew a straight line above teeth for the mouth.
