KIDS GARDEN APRON

INSTRUCTIONS

Cutting

Cut the following pieces (1cm seam allowance included)

• 2 x Pockets measuring 9.5cm x 32cm.
• 1 x Centre pocket 16 x 34cm.
• Body of Apron 29cm x 35cms on fold.
• Belt 1 x 40cm x 7cms on fold.
• Loops 2 x 18cm x 6cms.

Step 1 - Fold the apron, belt and pocket pattern pieces along the fold lines with right sides facing in and pin in place. Then repeat with the loop pieces, pin with right sides facing in. Sew together with a 1cm seam allowance, be sure to leave a gap for turning through.

Step 2 - Turn all pieces through and using a blunt pencil, poke the corners out.

Step 3 - Press well, making sure the seams are sitting on the edge.

Step 4 - On the Apron piece, fold one long edge down 4cms and press. Top stitch down with a 5mm seam allowance from both edges.

Step 5 - Top stitch belt all the way around, again with a 5mm seam allowance.

Step 6 - Fold body of apron in half with the short sides together and mark centre front with pins. (Finger press and pin).

Step 7 - At base of apron mark 4cms either side of C.F. and do the same for top of the centre pocket.

Step 8 - Pin the centre pocket down along each side and stitch in place with a 5mm seam allowance.

Step 9 - Fold pleats at the base of the pocket and pin. Stitch across to secure the pleats and pocket in place.

Step 10 - Pin the 2 side pockets onto the apron, ensuring the fold of fabric is at the top of the pocket and stitch in place.

Step 11 - Thread belt through waist casing made in Step 4 and attach buckle.

Step 12 - Applique on motif of choice (we used felt to create an avocado and corn cob, and attached it to the apron using a blanket stitch and chain stitch).

Step 13 - Attach Velcro to secure loop and stitch loop in place.

Step 14 - To finish, add gardening tools of choice and enjoy hours of fun in the garden!
