ITS RAINING HEARTS

Step 1. Remove the outside of the hoop. Place the inside circle on the white felt with the inside of the curve at one long edge. Draw a line around the inside edge of the hoop then cut along the line.

Step 2. With white felt paper side up, place hoop on top with the curve inside the top edge and trace around inside top edge of hoop. Draw waves on the opposite to form a cloud shape. Remember that the cloud shape will be reversed when fused to the fabric. Cut out the cloud and remove backing paper.

Step 3. Cut a 40cm square of shot cotton and place into the hoop. Pull firmly and tighten screw. Pin cloud in place at top of fabric. Remove outside of hoop and fuse cloud in place.

Step 4. Draw 13 hearts (approx. 2.5cm square) onto the paper side of the red felt and cut out. Remove backing paper. Arrange hearts as desired on fabric, placing outer hoop over the top to ensure hearts are away from edge. Fuse hearts in place.

Note - 3 strands of thread are used for stitching throughout.

Step 5. Using white thread overstitch around the edge of the cloud then add some running stitches in the cloud. Using red thread sew a running stitch from bottom edge of cloud down to and through the centre of each heart then around the inside edge of heart.

Step 6. Turn hoop over and trim back the shot cotton, leaving a 5cm overhang all around the hoop. Using white thread do a running stitch 3cm from the edge to pull the fabric in at the back. Tie it off with a knot to keep the fabric sitting nicely inside the hoop. If desired cut a circle of white felt to cover the back and stitch in place over gathered fabric.

EMBROIDERED HEARTS

Step 1. Cut 2 x 20xm squares of white linenand holding both squares of the linen together place into the hoop ensuring both are pulled taut.

Step 2. Using the darkest pink thread and a running stitch sew a heart shaped outline.

Step 3. Using a backstitch embroider small hearts inside the outline, starting with lightest pink at the bottom and working up to the darkest at the top.

Step 4. Turn hoop over and trim back the linen, leaving a 3cm overhang all around the hoop. Using white thread do a running stitch 2cm from the edge to pull the linen in at the back. Tie it off with a knot to keep the linen sitting nicely inside the hoop. If desired cut a circle of white felt to cover the back and stitch in place over gathered linen.
