INSTRUCTIONS

BRIM

Using 4.50mm hook, make 11ch, leaving a long end.

1st row - 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end, turn ... 10dc.

2nd row - 1ch, 1dc in back loop only in each st to end, turn.

Rep 2nd row until work measures 50cm (slightly stretched) from beg.

Do not fasten off. Slip last st onto a stitch marker.

Using a flat seam and long end, join first and last rows tog to form a ring.

MAIN PIECE

Slip st left on stitch marker onto a 6mm hook.

1st round - 1ch (does not count as a stitch here and throughout), work 72dc along side edge of brim, join with a sl st in first dc, turn ... 72dc.

2nd round - 2ch (counts as 1htr), 1htr in each dc to end, sl st in 2nd ch at beg, turn.

3rd round - As 2nd round.

4th round - 2ch, 1htr in next st, 1fpdtr in each of next 4htr 2 rows below, 1htr in each of 4htr, rep from to last 6 sts, 1fpdtr in each of next 4htr 2 rows below, 1htr in each of last 2 sts, sl st in 2nd ch at beg, turn.

5th round - As 2nd round.

7th round - As 2nd round.

Next round - 2ch, 2htr tog over next 2 sts (counts as 3htrtog), miss next 2 sts, 1fpdtr in each of next 2 sts 2 rows below, 1fpdtr in each of 2 missed sts 2 rows below, 3htr tog over next 3sts, rep from to end, sl st in 3htrtog at beg, turn ... 45 sts.
