WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • 'Mondial' Facewool Eye Baby 2 x 100g balls (light grey)
  • 1 pair 4mm knitting needles or size needed for correct tension.
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure


MEASUREMENTS

Scarf: 14 cm x 150 cm
Hat To fit head (approx): 56 cm

TENSION

21 sts and 28 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4mm needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

SPECIAL ABBREVIATION

K1B = knit 1 below - knit into next st 1 row below, slipping both sts off needle together.

Tubular Cast On (if desired)

Using a contrast colour, cast on half the number of sts you require, plus one extra st for odd number of sts, and for even number of sts increase or decrease one st when the cast on edge is complete to achieve the correct number of sts.

Change to yarn for project, 1st foundation row - K1, * with yarn at front, K1, rep from * to end ... this row increases to the number of sts required.

Begin Tubular Stitch -

2nd foundation row - * K1, bring yarn to front, slip next st purlways, bring yarn to back through needles, rep from * to last st, K1.

3rd foundation row - * slip 1 purlways, bring yarn to back, K1, bring yarn to front, rep from * to last st, slip last st.

Work 2nd and 3rd foundations rows as many times stated. Carefully unpick the contrast yarn from the cast on edge.

SCARF

Using 4mm needles, cast on 39 sts using Tubular Cast On, then work 6 rows in Tubular Stitch OR cast on in usual manner.

Beg Patt -

1st row (RS) - Sl 1, knit to end.

2nd row - Sl 1, * K1B, P1, rep from * to end. Last 2 rows form patt.

Cont in patt until work measures 150cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row. If worked Tubular Stitch at cast on, then work 6 rows of Tubular Stitch (as before). For either method, cast off. Sew trimming to one end of Scarf as pictured.

HAT

Using 4mm needles, cast on 72 sts using Tubular Cast On, then work 6 rows in Tubular Stitch OR cast on in usual manner.

Beg Patt

1st row (RS) - Sl 1, knit to end.

2nd row - Sl 1, * K1B, P1, rep from * to end. Last 2 rows form patt. Cont in patt until work measures 15cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Shape Crown -

1st row - * K7, K2tog, rep from * to end ... 64 sts.

2nd and foll alt rows - Purl.

3rd row - * K6, K2tog, rep from * to end ... 56 sts.

5th row - * K5, K2tog, rep from * to end ... 48 sts.

7th row - * K4, K2tog, rep from * to end... 40 sts.

9th row - * K3, K2tog, rep from * to end ... 32 sts.

11th row - * K2, K2tog, rep from * to end ... 24 sts.

13th row - * K1, K2tog, rep from * to end ... 16 sts.

14th row - Purl. Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side edges together to form centre back seam. Sew trimming to front of Hat as pictured.
