Crochet Hedgehog Project

LEVEL: EASY

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • '4 Seasons' Brighton Cotton Blend 8ply
    50g x 1 ball 1st Colour (C1) Natural, 1 ball 2nd Colour (C2) Brown and a small amount of 3rd Colour (C3) Black
  • A 4mm crochet hook or size required
    to give correct tension
  • A stitch-marker
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

 

INSTRUCTIONS

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS

Popcorn Stitch = 5tr into same st. Drop last loop from hook and insert hook from front to back in top of 1st tr,
then draw the dropped loop through.

HEDGEHOG (BEG AT SNOUT)

Using C1, make a magic ring. Using 4mm hook and C1, 1st round - 1ch, 3dc into magic ring, sl st in 1ch at beg ... 4dc.

Draw magic ring up firmly. Mark beg of each round with a stitch marker, moving up as required for each round.

2nd round - 1ch, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st in 1ch at beg.
3rd round - 1ch, 1dc in same st, 2dc in each dc to end ... 8dc.
4th round - As 2nd round.
5th round - 1ch, 2dc in next dc,

* 1dc in each of next 2dc, 2dc in next dc, rep from * to end, sl st in 1ch at beg ... 12dc.

6th round - As 2nd round.
7th round - 1ch, 1dc in next dc, 2dc in next dc, * 1dc in each of next 2dc, 2dc in next dc, rep from * to end, sl st in 1ch at beg ... 16dc.
8th round - As 2nd round.

Using C2, 9th round - 3ch, *popcorn in next dc, 1tr in next dc, rep from * to last st, popcorn in last dc, sl st in 3rd chain at beg.

10th round - 3ch, popcorn in same st,

* 1tr in top of popcorn of previous round, popcorn in next tr, rep from * to last st, 1tr in top of popcorn of previous round, sl st in 3rd chain at beg. Rep 10th row
3 times more.

Fill firmly with poly fill, moulding to shape.

Next round - 1ch, draw up a loop in each of next 3 sts, yoh, draw through all 4 loops on hook, * draw up a loop in each of next 4 sts, yoh, draw through all 4 loops on hook, rep from * twice more.

Break off yarn leaving a long end. Thread end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using C3, work a French knot on end of snout to form nose. Using C3, work a further 2 french knots for eyes as pictured.
