WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • 'Caron x Pantone' 100g braids: Version 1 or Version 2 - Frozen Berry (01022) x 2
  • 6mm & 6.5mm crochet hooks or size needed for correct tension
  • Stitch marker

INSTRUCTIONS

VERSION 1 COLOUR SEQUENCE

A - 19-4044, B - 13-4103, C - 17-5034, D - 18-2929, E - 17-4540

VERSION 2 COLOUR SEQUENCE

A - 18-2929, B - 13-4103, C - 19-4044, D - 17-4540, E - 17-5034

ABBREVIATIONS

Approx = Approximate(ly), Beg = Begin(ning), Ch = Chain(s), Cont = Continue(ity), Htr = Half Treble, Pat = Pattern, Rem = Remain(ing), Rep = Repeat, Rnd(s) = Round(s), RS = Right side, Dc = Double crochet, Dc2tog = Draw up a loop in each of next 2 dc. Yoh and draw through all 3 loops on hook., Sl st = Slip stitch,St(s) = Stitch(es), WS = Wrong side, Yoh = Yarn over hook

MEASUREMENTS

One Size. To fit Adult.

TENSION

12 dc and 14 rows over 10 cm with 6mm crochet hook.

Before working with Caron x Pantone multishade yarn braid, separate each color link and wind into 5 separate balls for each braid.

Each color link will be referenced by its Pantone color # (see ball band)

Designate each yarn ball Contrast, A, B, C, D and E as noted in Materials section (or as desired).

Due to finite amount of yarn in each shade, pattern gauge must be matched to ensure successful results

Do not break contrast color - carry color not in use loosely up side of work.

Ribbing and Body of Hat are worked sideways.

RIBBING

With A and 6.5mm hook, ch 20.

1st row - (RS). 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook and each ch to end of chain. Turn. 19 sts.

2nd and 3rd rows - With B, ch 1. Sl st in each st to end of row. Turn.

4th and 5th rows - With A, ch 1. Sl st in each st to end of row. Turn. Last 4 rows form Stripe Pat.

Cont in Stripe Pat until work when slightly stretched measures approx. 53.5 cm, ending with 2 rows of B. Fasten off.

BODY OF HAT

With C and smaller hook, ch 18.

1st row - 1 htr in 3rd ch from hook. 1 htr in each ch to end of chain. Turn. 16 htr.

2nd row - Ch 2 (does not count as htr). 1 htr in horizontal bar created below st in previous row (bar is below loops normally worked on WS - see diagram) in each st to end of row. Turn.

3rd and 4th rows - With D, as 2nd row.

5th and 6th rows - With C, as 2nd row. Last 4 rows form Body Stripe Pat. Cont in Body Stripe Pat until work from beg, when slightly stretched, measures 53.5 cm. Fasten off.

Sew side of Ribbing to Body of Hat. Sew back seam, reversing 9 cm for turn-back cuff on Ribbing.

CROWN

1st round - (RS). With 6mm hook, join E with sl st at Hat seam. Ch 1. Work 57 dc evenly around top edge of Hat. Join with sl st to first dc.

2nd round - Ch 1. 1 dc in first dc. Dc2tog. 1 dc in each of next 5 dc. Rep from around. Join with sl st to first dc. 49 sts.

3rd round - Ch 1. 1 dc in first dc. Dc2tog. 1 dc in each of next 4 dc. Rep from around. Join with sl st to first dc. 41 sts.

4th round - Ch 1. 1 dc in first dc. Dc2tog. 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Rep from around. Join with sl st to first dc. 33 sts.

5th round - Ch 1. 1 dc in first dc. Dc2tog. 1 dc in each of next 2 dc. Rep from around. Join with sl st to first dc. 25 sts.

6th round - Ch 1. 1 dc in first dc. Dc2tog. 1 dc in next dc. Rep from around. Join with sl st to first dc. 17 sts. Fasten off, leaving a long end. Thread end through rem sts. Pull tightly. Fasten securely.
