To Fit Head (approx) cm: 51 (2 Years), 52 (4 Years), 53 (6 Years), 53 (8 Years), 55 (10 Years)

TENSION

22 sts and 28 rows to 10cm over stocking st,

using 4mm needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

BEANIE

Note:Using 4mm needles, cast on 90 (94-98-98-102) sts.

1st row(RS) - K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.

2nd row - P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 2.5cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row and dec 1 (3-1-1-1) st/s evenly across last row ... 89 (91-97-97-101) sts. Work in stocking st until work measures 14 (15-16.5-18-18.5) cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Shape Crown -

1st row (RS) - * K9 (7-10-10-23), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 81 (81-89-89-97) sts.

2nd and foll alt rows - Purl.

3rd row - * K8 (8-9-9-10), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 73 (73-81-81-89) sts.

5th row - * K7 (7-8-8-9), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 65 (65-73-73-81) sts.

7th row - * K6 (6-7-7-8), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 57 (57-65-65-73) sts.

9th row - * K5 (5-6-6-7), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 49 (49-57-57-65) sts.
11th row - * K4 (4-5-5-6), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 41 (41-49-49-57) sts.

13th row - * K3 (3-4-4-5), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 33 (33-41-41-49) sts.

15th row - * K2 (2-3-3-4), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 25 (25-33-33-41) sts.

Sizes 6, 8 and 10 years only - 18th row - Purl.

19th row - * K (1-1-2), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... (17-17-25) sts.

Size 10 years only - 20th row - Purl.

21st row - * K1, K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 17 sts.

All Sizes - Next row - Purl. Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side edges together to form centre back seam. Attach pom pom securely to top of beanie.
