CHILD'S HARD HELMET

INSTRUCTIONS

Using 9.00mm hook, make 2ch.

1st row - Miss 1ch, 6dc in next ch.

The rem is worked in continuous rounds. Do not join at the end of each round, but continue, place a marker at the end of the round and move it at the end of each round.

2nd round - 2dc in each st to end ... 12dc.

3rd round - * 2dc in next st, 1dc in next st, rep from * to end ... 18dc.

4th round - * 2dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * to end ... 24dc.

5th round - * 2dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * to end ... 30dc.

6th round - * 2dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 4 sts, rep from * to end ... 36dc.

7th round - * 2dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 5 sts, rep from * to end ... 42dc.

8th round - * 2dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 6 sts, rep from * to end ... 48dc.

9th round - * 2dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 7 sts, rep from * to end ... 54dc.

10th round - 1dc in each st to end.

Rep last round 9 times. Fasten off.

CENTRE PIECE

Having Helmet upside down and with WS facing, join yarn to any st, with a sl st.

Working into the back loop of each st for this row only work as folls -

1st row - 1dc in first st, 1dc in each of next 11 sts ... 12dc.

2nd row - 1ch, 1dc in each st to end.

Rep last row 5 times.

8th row - 1ch, dec over next 2 sts, 1dc in each st to last 2 sts, dec over last 2 sts ... 10 sts.

Work 1 row.

Rep last 2 rows until 6 sts rem.

Work 25 rows on these 6 sts.

Joining back of centre panel to hat. Count 18 sts from end of centre panel and work into next st.

Next row - 1dc in next st through both loops (centre panel and hat), and each of next 5 sts.

Fasten off. Using running st, sew the sides of the centre piece onto the helmet as pictured.

FRONT BRIM

With RS facing join yarn to 5th st from beg of centre panel.

Next row - 1ch, 1dc in same st as sl st, 1dc in front lp of each of next 20 sts, 1dc in both lps of next st, turn ... 22 sts.

Next row - 1ch, dec over next 2 sts, 1dc in each st to last 2 sts, dec over last 2 sts ... 20 sts.

Rep last row until there are 14 sts, do not turn on last row.

Next round - 1ch, work 5dc alongside of front brim, * 2dc in next st, 1dc in next st, rep from * around hat to beg of front brim, 2dc in next st, work 5dc along other side of front brim, 1dc in each of next 14 sts, sl st in The

dc at beg.

Work another round of dc, working 2dc in each of 2 corner sts of front brim.

Fasten off.

FINISHING

Sew in ends.
