Plain Cotton/Linen Cushion Covers Project

What you'll need:

  • Fabrics are from 'Plain Cotton/Linen' range - Blush, Forest, Mustard & Taupe
  • 1m fabric makes 1 square & 1 oblong cushion cover
  • Matching Gutermann 100% cotton thread
  • Pins, tape measure
  • Scissors, seam ripper
  • Sewing machine
  • 1 x Size 18 (46cm x 46cm) Cushion Insert per square cushion
  • 1 x Rapee Oblong Cushion Insert (32cm x 52.5cm) per oblong cushion

Read all instructions carefully before commencing the project.

INSTRUCTIONS

SQUARE CUSHION COVER

  1. From one fabric cut a 46cm square for the cushion front and two 33cm x 46cm rectangles for the cushion back.
  2. For the cushion backs, fold under 1.5cm on one long side of each rectangle and topstitch hem in place.
  3. With cushion front right side up, place one hemmed back piece face down on top, aligning top and side raw edges with hemmed edge towards the centre. Pin in place. Place other piece face down on top aligning bottom and side edges with hemmed edge overlapping the other piece in the centre. Pin in place.
  4. Sew together around all four sides using 1cm seam allowance. Clip corners and overlock or zigzag seams to neaten. Turn cover right side out and press flat. Place size 18 insert into cover with back edges overlapping.

OBLONG CUSHION COVER

  1. From one fabric cut a 52.5cm wide x 32cm rectangle for the cushion front and two 37cm wide x 32cm rectangles for the cushion back.
  2. For the cushion backs, fold under 1.5cm on one short side of each rectangle and topstitch hem in place.
  3. With cushion front right side up, place one hemmed back piece face down on left side, aligning side, top and bottom raw edges with hemmed edge towards the centre. Pin in place. Place other back piece face down on top aligning top, bottom and side edges with hemmed edge overlapping the other piece in the centre. Pin in place.
  4. Sew together around all four sides using 1cm seam allowance. Clip corners and overlock or zigzag seams to neaten. Turn cover right side out and press flat. Place oblong insert into cover with back edges overlapping.

Repeat to make as many cushion covers as desired.
