INSTRUCTIONS

CUTTING

All strips are cut across the width of fabric unless otherwise stated.

  • From each organic cotton fabric cut 3 x 2 1/2" strips (24 strips in total).

LARGE CUSHION

Step 1.Cut 12 x 2 1/2" strips in half to make 24 half strips. For the cushion front arrange 10 strips in desired colour order and sew together. Press seams in one direction and trim ends to 20".

Step 2.Pin the tassel trim on all sides of the cushion front aligning straight edge along raw edge of fabric, tassels facing into the centre. Sew trim to fabric along the black thread closest to the tassel.

Step 3.For the cushion backs divide the remaining 14 half strips into 2 sets of 7. Arrange each set in desired colour order and sew together. Press seams in one direction. Press one edge strip on each back piece over 1/4" to wrong side then fold over another 1/4" press and topstitch.

Step 4.Place cushion front right side up with stripes vertical. Ensuring tassels are lying flat towards the centre stick masking tape over the top to hold tassels in place while sewing.

Step 5.Place one hemmed back piece face down on top, aligning top and side raw edges with hemmed edge towards the centre. Pin in place. Note - stripes on front are vertical, stripes on the back are horizontal. Place remaining back piece face down on top aligning bottom and side edges with hemmed edge overlapping the other top hemmed edge in the centre. Pin in place.

Step 6.Making sure that cushion cover is well pinned flip over so the front is now face down on top of the backs. You can now see the stitching line where the trim was sewn on. Sew cushion together around all four sides on the visible stitching line. Clip corners and overlock or zigzag seams to neaten and press flat.

Step 7.Turn cover right side out, press well and place insert into cover with back edges overlapping.

SMALL CUSHION

Step 8.Take the remaining 12 x 2 1/2" strips in half to make 24 half strips. For the cushion front arrange 8 strips in desired colour order and sew together. Press seams in one direction and trim ends to 16".

Step 9.Pin the tassel trim on all sides of the cushion front aligning straight edge along raw edge of fabric, tassels facing into the centre. Sew trim to fabric along the black thread closest to the tassel.

Step 10.For the cushion backs take 12 of the remaining half strips into 2 sets of 6. Arrange each set in desired colour order and sew together. Press seams in one direction. Press one edge strip on each back piece over 1/4" to wrong side then fold over another 1/4" press and topstitch.

Step 11.Place cushion front right side up with stripes vertical. Ensuring tassels are lying flat towards the centre stick masking tape over the top to hold tassels in place while sewing.

Step 12.To complete cushion follow steps 4-7.
