WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Jocelyn Proust 3 Cushion Panel
  • 40cm Jocelyn Proust Cockatiel, Sand
  • 70cm Jocelyn Proust Coastal Banksia, Navy
  • 3 x 50cm squares wadding/batting
  • 50cm Prima Homespun, natural unseeded
  • 50cm Prima Homespun, navy
  • Matching Gutermann 100% cotton thread
  • Pins, tape measure
  • Scissors, seam ripper
  • Sewing machine with walking foot
  • 3 x Size 18 (46cm x 46cm) Cushion Insert per cushion

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1 - From the panel cut out the Cockatiel, Coastal Banksia and Major Mitchell squares for the cushion fronts. For the cushion backs cut two, four 33cm x 46cm rectangles from the Cockatiel, sand and 33cm x 46cm rectangles from the Coastal Banksia, navy.

Note - the fabrics are directional.

Step 2 - From the unseeded natural homespun cut one 50cm square and cut two 50cm squares from navy homespun.

Step 3 - For the quilted cushion front - layer the homespun square, batting and cushion panel. With the walking foot attached, quilt as desired to suit the fabric design. Trim quilted cushion front to a 46cm square.

Step 4 - As the fabrics are directional take the 33cm x 46cm rectangle top back section of the cover and to sew a double hem along the bottom 46cm long side, fold and press under 1cm then another 1cm and topstitch hem in place. Press well.

Step 5 - Take the 33cm x 46cm rectangle bottom back section of the cover and sew a double hem along the top 46cm long side. Press well.

Step 6 - With cushion front right side up and pattern facing to the top, place hemmed top back section (step 2) face down on top, aligning top and side raw edges with hemmed edge towards the centre. Pin in place.

Step 7 - Place the hemmed bottom back section (step 3) face down on top aligning bottom and side edges with hemmed edge overlapping the top section in the centre. Pin in place.

Step 8 - Sew together around all four sides using 1cm seam allowance. Clip corners, turn cover right side out and press flat.

Step 9 - Press well and topstitch around all sides 5mm in from the edge. Press and place insert into cover with back edges overlapping.

Repeat Steps 3 to 9 to make all 3 cushion covers.
