WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • 'Moda Vera' Starlight 8ply 50g balls x 6 (7) Main Colour (M) black
  • 1 ball 1st Contrast (C1) burgundy 1 ball 2nd Contrast (C2) pink and 1 ball 3rd Contrast (C3) natural
  • One 4.50mm crochet hook, or size required for correct tension 100 (110) cm of 100mm fringing for trim
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

Fits Bust (approx) cm: 75-80 (Size S), 85-90 (Size M)

Actual Size (approx) cm: 85 (Size S), 95 (Size M)

Length (approx excluding fringe) cm: 54 (Size S), 56 (Size M)

Sleeve Length (approx) cm: 50 (Size S), 50 (Size M)

TENSION

22 sts x 9 rows to 10cm over main patt, using 4.50mm hook

1 motif measures 14cm in width and 9cm in depth, using 4.50mm hook.

INSTRUCTIONS

MOTIF (make 32 - 6 for each Front and 10 for each Sleeve)

Using 4.50mm hook and C1, make 18ch.

1st row - 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end, turn ... 17dc.
2nd row - 1ch, dc2tog, 1dc in each dc to last 2dc, dc2tog, turn ... 15dc.
Rep 2nd row until 2 sts rem, dc2tog. Fasten off.

Beg Edging -

1st round - Using 4.50mm hook, join C2 with a sl st between last dc2tog at top of motif, 2ch (counts as 1dc), (1dc, 3ch, 2dc) in same sp, (1ch, 2dc) in every alt row to next corner, (2dc, 3ch 2dc) in next corner, miss 1dc, 1ch, 2dc in next dc, rep from * to last dc, miss last dc, 1ch, (2dc, 3ch, 2dc) in next corner, (1ch, 2dc) in every alt row to end, 1ch, sl st in 2nd ch at beg.
Fasten off.

2nd round - Using 4.50mm hook, join C3 with a sl st in first 3ch corner sp at top of motif, (2ch, 1dc, 3ch, 2dc) in same sp, * (1ch, 2dc) in each 1ch sp to next 3ch corner sp, 1ch, (2dc, 3ch, 2dc) in 3ch corner sp *, rep from * to * once, ** (1ch, 2dc) in next ch sp, rep from ** to end, 1ch, join with a sl st in 2nd ch at beg. Fasten off.

3rd round - Using 4.50mm hook, join M with a sl st in first 3ch corner sp at top of motif, (3ch, 1tr, 3ch, 2tr) in same sp, * (1ch, 2tr) in each 1ch sp to next 3ch corner sp, 1ch, (2tr, 3ch, 2tr) in 3ch corner sp,* rep from * to *once, ** (1ch, 2tr) in next ch sp, rep from ** to end, 1ch, join with a sl st in 3rd ch at beg.

For 8 of the 20 motifs that form Sleeve only - Next row - Join yarn with a sl st in lower right 3ch corner sp, (3ch, 1tr) in same sp, (1ch, 2tr) in each 1ch sp to next 3ch corner sp, 1ch, (2tr, 3ch, 2tr) in top 3ch corner sp, (1ch, 2tr) in each 1ch sp to next 3ch corner sp, 2tr in last 3ch corner sp. Fasten off.

Sleeve Insert Motifs (make 4 in total, 2 for each Sleeve) - Using 4.50mm hook and M, make 15ch.

1st row - 1tr in 4th ch from hook, * 1ch, miss 2ch, 2tr in next ch, rep from * to end, turn.
2nd row - 4ch, 2tr in next 1ch sp, (1ch, 2tr in next 1ch sp) twice, 1ch, 1tr in last 1ch sp, 1tr in last tr.
3rd row - 3ch, 1tr in next 1ch sp, (1ch, 2tr in next 1ch sp) twice, 1ch, 1tr in last tr, turn.
4th row - 3ch, 1tr in next 1ch sp, 1ch, 2tr in next 1ch sp, 1ch, 1tr in next 1ch sp, 1tr in last tr, turn.
5th row - 3ch, 1tr in next 1ch sp, 1ch, 2tr in next 1ch sp, 1tr in last tr, turn.
6th row - 3ch, 2tr in next 1ch sp, 1tr in last tr, turn.
7th row - 3ch, 1tr in next 1ch sp, 1tr in last tr. Fasten off.

BACK

Using M, make 96ch (107ch)

1st row - 1tr in fourth ch * (miss 2ch, 1tr in each of next 2ch) rep from * to end, turn.
2nd row- 5ch, * (2tr in 2ch sp, 2ch) rep from * to end, ending with 1tr into top of 3ch acting as 1tr, turn.
3rd row - 3ch, 1tr in 2ch sp, * (2ch, 2tr in 2ch sp) rep from * to end, ending with 2tr into 5ch sp, turn.
Rep 2nd and 3rd rows until work measures 32cm from beg

Shape Armholes -

Next row - Sl st across ch and tr for 3cm (4.5cm), keeping patt correct, cont across row to last 3cm (4.5cm) cm, turn.

Cont in patt on these sts until armhole measures 22cm (24cm). Fasten off.

FRONTS

Using M only for rem, Step 1 (see diagram) - Using dc, join 4 motifs of the 8 motifs made with 2 extra rows to form a square.

Step 2 (see diagram) - Join M with a sl st in any corner, 1st row - (3ch, 1tr, 3ch, 2tr) in same sp, * 2ch, (2tr, 2ch) in each 2ch sp to next corner, (2tr, 3ch, 2tr) in next corner, rep from * twice more, 2ch (2tr, 2ch) in each 2ch sp to end, sl st in 3rd ch at beg. Rep 1st row once.
Step 3 (see diagram) - Keeping patt st correct, work 2 rows along lower edge of square, then 3 rows along upper edge of square.
Step 4 and 5 (see diagram) - Using dc, join a 5th motif to 3rd row at top of square, leaving 3 (4.5) cm at side edge for armhole shaping. Using dc, join 6th motif to 5th motif as indicated.
Step 6 (see diagram) - Working in (2tr, 2ch) patt (as before), work 2 (3) rows along joined edge, decreasing at each end of row.
Step 7 (see diagram) - Work 3 rows tr along lower edge of Front.
Step 8 - Work 4 (5) rows tr evenly along side edge of Front to armhole shaping, then 4 (5) rows tr evenly along front edge, dec at shoulder edge to keep shoulder edge even.
Fasten off. Make a second Front piece to correspond with first front piece.

SLEEVES

Using M for rem, Step 1 (see diagram) - Using dc, join motifs tog.

Step 2 (see diagram) - Using dc, join sleeve insert motifs.
Step 3
(see diagram) - Beg at lower side edge of sleeve and working in 2tr, 2ch patt as for Back, work 2 (3) rows around side edges and top of sleeve.
Tie 3 coloured threads to each side edge of sleeve dividing into 4 even sections.

Step 4 - Beg at first coloured thread and keeping patt correct, patt to last coloured thread. Fasten off.
Step 5
- Beg at second coloured thread and keeping patt correct, patt to second last coloured thread. Fasten off.
Step 6
- Beg at third coloured thread and keeping patt correct, patt to last coloured thread. Fasten off.
Step 7
- Beg at lower side edge of sleeve, work 1 (2) row/s patt along side edges and top of sleeve to corresponding lower side edge. Fasten off.
Step 8
- Work 2 rows of tr along lower edge of sleeve for cuff.

Rep steps 1 to 8 for second sleeve.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using a flat seam and M, join shoulder side and sleeve seams, leaving 3.5 (4cm) at top of sleeves free. Sew in sleeves, placing centre of sleeves to shoulder seams and rem rows of sleeve left free to 3.5 (4) cm of armhole shaping.

Using 4.50mm hook and M, work 4 (5) rows tr along front edges and across back neck, inc and dec where necessary to keep work flat.
