  • 'Abbey Road' Kung Fu Cotton 100g: 5 (5-6-7) balls Main Colour (M) Vanilla, 1 (1-1-1) balls 1st Contrast (C1) Jade & 1 (1-2-2) balls 2nd Contrast (C2) Blue.
  • 1 pair each 5.50mm and 5mm knitting needles, or sizes required for correct tension.
  • 2 stitch-holders.
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure.

INSTRUCTIONS

BEG V PATT

Note - When joining colours in centre of row, twist the colour to be used underneath and to the right of colour just used, making sure yarns are worked firmly at joins. Wind yarn into smaller balls if necessary.

1st row (RS) - K38 (42-46-50) M, K1C1, K38 (42-46-50) M.

2nd row - P38 (42-46-50) M, P1C1, P38 (42-46-50) M.

3rd row - K37 (41-45-49) M, K3C1, K37 (41-45-49) M.

4th row - P37 (41-45-49) M, P3C1, P37 (41-45-49) M.

5th row - K36 (40-44-48) M, K5C1, K36 (40-44-48) M.

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes as there is no armhole shaping.

Keeping movement of patt correct for rem, working 1 less st in M on either side of V and 2 more sts in C2 inside V, work a further 30 (32-32-34) rows patt.

SHAPE NECK

Keeping patt correct, 1st row (RS) - Patt 32 (35-39-43), turn.

Cont on these 32 (35-39-43) sts for left side of neck.

*** Dec one st at neck edge in every foll alt row until 28 (31-34-38) sts rem.

Work a further 9 rows patt.

SHAPE SHOULDER

Keeping patt correct, cast off 9 (10-11-13) sts at beg of next row, then in foll alt row.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 10 (11-12-12) sts. ***

Slip next 13 (15-15-15) sts onto a stitch-holder and leave for neckband.

With RS facing, join appropriate colour to rem sts and patt to end.

Cont on these 32 (35-39-43) sts for right side of neck.

Rep from *** to ***, working 1 more row before shoulder shaping.

BACK

Work as for Front to **.

Using M only for rem, work in stocking st until work measures same as Front to coloured threads, ending with a purl row.

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes.

Cont in stocking st, until work measures same as for Front from coloured threads to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with a purl row.

SHAPE SHOULDERS

Cast off 9 (10-11-13) sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 10 (11-12-12) sts at beg of foll 2 rows.

Leave rem 21 (23-25-25) sts on stitch-holder for neckband.

SLEEVES

Using pair of 5mm needles and M, cast on 35 (37-37-39) sts.

BEG CUFF

Work in rib as for lower band of Back, until cuff measures 5cm from beg, working last row on RS.

Next row (WS) - Rib 0 (1-1-2), inc in next st, * rib 2, inc in next st, rep from * to last 1 (2-2-3) st/s, rib 1 (2-2-3) ... 47 (49-49-51) sts.

Change to 5.50mm needles.

Working in stocking st for rem, inc one st at each end of 5th row, then in every foll 4th row until there are 53 (61-67-69) sts, then in every foll 6th row until there are 71 (75-77-79) sts.

Cont without shaping until work measures 43cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

SHAPE TOP

Cast off 10 (11-11-11) sts at beg of next 6 rows.

Cast off rem 11 (9-11-13) sts.

NECKBAND

Using mattress st, join right shoulder seam. With RS facing, using 5mm needles and C2, knit up 18 (18-20-20) sts evenly along left side of neck, knit across 13 (15-15-15) sts from front stitch-holder, knit up 18 (18-20-20) sts evenly along right side of neck, then knit across 21 (23-25-25) sts from back neck stitch-holder, dec one st in centre ... 69 (73-79-79) sts.

Work 7 rows rib as for lower band of Back, beg with a 2nd row.

Cast off loosely in rib.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeves to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams.
