Faux Mo Cable Sweater Project

Level: Intermediate

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • 'Moda Vera' Faux Mo 30g x 5 (6-7-8) balls
  • 1 pair each 4.50mm and 5mm knitting needles or sizes required to give correct tension.
  • A cable needle
  • 2 stitch-holders
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

MEASUREMENTS

To Fit Bust (cm): 80-85 (size S), 90-95 (size M), 100-105 (size L), 110-115 (size XL)
Actual Size (approx) cm: 100 (size S), 110 (size M), 120 (size L), 130 (size XL)
Length (cm): 60 (size S), 61 (size M), 62 (size L), 63 (size XL)
Sleeve Length (cm): 43 (all sizes)

TENSION

18 sts and 27 rows to 10cm over purl fabric, using 5mm needles.

SPECIAL ABBREVIATION

C10B = slip next 5 sts onto a cable needle and leave at back of work, K5, then K5 from cable needle.

C10F = slip next 5 sts onto a cable needle and leave at front of work, K5, then K5 from cable needle.

INSTRUCTIONS

BACK AND FRONT (both alike)

Using 4.50mm needles, cast on 94 (102-110-122) sts.

Beg Rib - 1st row (RS) - K2, P2, K2, rep from to end.

2nd row - P2, K2, P2, rep from to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 5cm from beg, ending with a 1st row.

Next row - Rib 42 (44-48-56), (inc in next st, rib 1) 5 (7-7-5) times, rib to end ... 99 (109-117-127) sts.

Change to 5mm needles.

Beg Patt - 1st row (RS) - P42 (47-51-56), K15, purl to end.

2nd row - K42 (47-51-56), P15, knit to end.

3rd row - P42 (47-51-56), C10B, K5, purl to end.

4th row - As 2nd row.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows 4 times.

13th row - P42 (47-51-56), K5, C10F, purl to end.

14th row - As 2nd row.

Rows 1 to 14 incl form patt.

Cont in patt until work measures 38cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes as there is no armhole shaping.

Cont in patt until work measures 16 (17-18-19) cm from coloured threads, working last row on WS.

Shape Neck - Next row (RS) - P36 (40-43-47), turn.

Cont on these 36 (40-43-47) sts and dec one st at neck edge in every row until 28 (32-35-39) sts rem.

Cont without shaping until work measures 22 (23-24-25) cm from coloured threads, working last row on WS.

Shape Shoulder - Cast off 9 (11-12-13) sts at beg of next row and foll alt row.

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 10 (10-11-13) sts.

Slip next 27 (29-31-33) sts onto a stitch-holder and leave.

With RS facing, join yarn to rem 36 (40-43-47) sts and purl to end.

Rep from to , working 1 row more before shoulder shaping.

SLEEVES

Using 4.50mm needles, cast on 42 (46-46-50) sts.

Beg Rib - Work in rib as for lower band of Back and Front until work measures 5cm from beg, ending with a 1st row.

Next row - Rib 5 (2-1-6), inc in next st, rib 2 (3-2-2), inc in next st, rep from to last 6 (3-2-7) sts, rib 6 (3-2-7) ... 53 (57-61-63) sts.

Change to 5mm needles.

Beg Patt - 1st row (RS) - P19 (21-23-24), K15, purl to end.

2nd row - K19 (21-23-24), P15, knit to end.

3rd row - Inc in first st, P18 (20-22-23), C10B, K5, purl to last st, inc in last st ... 55 (59-63-65) sts.

4th row - K20 (22-24-25), P15, knit to end.

5th row - P20 (22-24-25), K15, purl to end.

Rep 4th and 5th rows 3 times, then 4th row once, inc one st at each end of 4th row ... 57 (61-65-67) sts.

13th row - P21 (23-25-26), K5, C10F, purl to end.

14th row - K21 (23-25-26), P15, knit to end.

Rows 1 to 14 incl form patt, noting that st will be inc.

Cont in patt and working extra sts into purl fabric, inc one st at each end of next row, then in every foll 6th row until there are 83 (87-91-93) sts.

Cont in patt without shaping until work measures 43cm from beg, working last row on RS.

Next row - K34 (36-38-39), (P2tog) 7 times, P1, knit to end.

Cast off rem sts loosely.


NECKBAND

Using mattress st, join right shoulder seam. With RS facing and using 4.50mm needles, knit up 16 sts evenly along left front neck, knit across sts from front stitch-holder - dec 7 sts evenly across cable, knit up 16 sts evenly along right front neck, 15 sts evenly along right back neck, knit across sts from back stitch-holder - dec 7 sts evenly across cable, then knit up 15 sts evenly along left back neck ... 102 (106-110-114) sts.

Work in rib as for lower band of Back and Front (beg with a 2nd row) until neckband measures 3 cm, ending with a 2nd row. Cast off loosely in rib.


FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Join left shoulder and neckband seam. Sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeves to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams.
