  • 'Anette Eriksson' Eco Cotton: 4 (4-5-5-6-6) 100g balls.
  • A pair 6mm knitting needles, or size required to give correct tension.
  • A 5mm crochet hook for edging.
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure.

TENSION

16 sts and 20 rows to 10cm over garter st, using 6mm needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

BACK

Using 6mm needles, cast on 76 (84-90-98-108-118) sts.

Knit in garter st (1st row is WS) until work measures 8 (8-8-9-9-9) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark end of side split.

Cont in garter st until work measures 43 (44-45-46-47-48) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

SHAPE ARMHOLES

Cast off 3 (4-4-5-6-7) sts at beg of next 2 rows ... 70 (76-82-88-96-104) sts.

Cont in garter st until work measures 56 (58-60-62-64-66) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

SHAPE BACK NECK

Next row (RS) - K25 (28-30-32-35-38), cast off next 20 (20-22-24-26-28) sts, knit to end.

Cont on these 25 (28-30-32-35-38) sts.

Work 1 row.

Next row - Cast off 2 sts, knit to end.

Cast off rem 23 (26-28-30-33-36) sts on WS for shoulder.

With WS facing, join yarn to rem 25 (28-30-32-35-38) sts.

Next row - Cast off 2 sts, knit to end.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 23 (26-28-30-33-36) sts on WS for shoulder.

FRONT

Using 6mm needles, cast on 76 (84-90-98-108-118) sts.

Knit in garter st (1st row is WS) until work measures 4 (4-4-5-5-5) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark end of side split.

Cont in garter st until work measures 39 (40-41-42-43-44) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Note - Front is 4cm shorter than Back to armholes.

SHAPE ARMHOLES

Cast off 3 (4-4-5-6-7) sts at beg of next 2 rows ... 70 (76-82-88-96-104) sts.

Work 0 (2-2-4-4-6) rows.

SHAPE NECK

Next row (RS) - K28 (31-33-36-39-43), cast off next 14 (14-16-16-18-18) sts, knit to end.

Cont on these 28 (31-33-36-39-43) sts.

Cast off 2 sts at neck edge in every foll alt row 1 (1-1-2-2-2) time/s, then dec one st at neck edge in every foll alt row 3 (3-3-2-2-3) times ... 23 (26-28-30-33-36) sts.

Cont without shaping until work measures 52 (54-56-58-60-62) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Work a further 3 rows garter st.

Cast off rem sts on WS for shoulder.

With WS facing, join yarn to rem 28 (31-33-36-39-43) sts.

Cast off 2 sts at neck edge in next row, then in every foll alt row 0 (0-0-1-1-1) time/s, then dec one st at neck edge in 3rd row, then in every foll alt row 2 (2-2-1-1-2) time/s ... 23 (26-28-30-33-36) sts.

Cont without shaping until work measures 52 (54-56-58-60-62) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Work a further 3 rows garter st.

Cast off rem sts on WS for shoulder.

SLEEVES

Using 6mm needles, cast on 38 (40-42-44-46-48) sts.

Knit in garter st (1st row is WS) until work measures 8 (8-8-7-7-7) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Cont in garter st, inc one st at each end of next row, then in every foll 10th (8th-8th-6th-6th-6th) row until there are 52 (56-60-64-68-70) sts.

Cont without shaping until work measures 47 (46-46-45-44-42) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Cast off loosely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join shoulder seams. Join side seams, leaving side splits unsewn and noting that front is shorter than back. Join sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves to where sts were cast off for armholes on back and front and easing sleeve to fit. Using 5mm crochet hook, work 1 round of double crochet evenly around neck, inc and dec where necessary to keep work flat.
