WEDGES

1. To make the 12 wedges layout assorted strips at random in the following size order - 8", 9", 10 1/2", 13", 16", 18". Layout all strips to make 12 wedges and when happy with the arrangement decide on where the opening will be.

Tip - taking a photo of your layout makes it easy to arrange after sewing.

2. Pick up the strips on one side of the opening keeping in order from shortest to longest. Centre bottom edge of 8" strip along top edge of 9" strip with right sides together and pin. Sew together.

3. Repeat step 2 with 10 1/2" and 13" strips then again with 16" and 18" strips.

4. Centre bottom edge of 9" strip along top edge of 10 1/2" strip with right sides facing, pin and sew together. Centre bottom edge of 13" strip along top edge of 16" strip with right sides facing, pin and sew together.

5. Repeat steps 2 -4 for remaining 11 strip sets. Taking care to keep sets in correct order.

6. Using the same method as before sew a Fabric G strip to the bottom edge of all 12 strip sets, making sure reindeer are right way up.

7. Press seams in each strip set in one direction alternating direction in each set around.

8. Centre template provided on a strip set and cut out a wedge. Repeat for all 12 strip sets, keeping wedges in correct order.

TREE SKIRT

9. Starting at one edge of the opening and matching seams sew wedges together in pairs. Keeping order correct, sew pairs together making 3 sets of 4 and then sew the 3 sets together. Press seams in one direction around the circle.

10. Cut a 70" square of wide homespun backing fabric and a 70" square of batting. Later together, placing tree skirt on top and baste together. Quilt as desired. We quilted 1/4" on each side of the long seams and 1/4" up from each seam across each section of the wedges.

11. Trim excess batting and backing from around outside edge, down each side of the centre opening and around the inside circle.

12. Join 10 x 2 1/2" binding strips together on the bias to make one long strip. Press in half lengthwise

13. Starting at the top of the left front edge sew binding down the front all the way around the edge and back up the right front edge. Trim off excess binding and set aside. Fold binding to the back and hand or machine sew in place.

14. Take remaining binding and starting at the top right hand edge, leave a 15" tail and sew binding around top inside circle. Leaving a 15" tail trim off excess binding.

15. Fold ends in 14." and stitch across. Fold binding to the back and hand or machine sew in place. Fold tails in half and sew together to create ties.

16. To make ties cut 4 x 15" lengths from remaining binding. Fold ends in 1/4" and sew. Sew to inside edge of binding - one 10" down from top and another a further 10" down. Sew remaining 2 to line up on opposite edge of the binding.
