KRINGLE SPARKLE BEARD

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• 'Value Ball' Kringle Sparkle 8ply 1 (1) x 50g balls.
• One pair 4mm knitting needles or size needed for correct tension.
• A length of braided elastic.
• A crochet hook for fringing.
• Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

MEASUREMENT

Length (approx, excluding fringing) cm: 8 (Child), 10 (Adult)

TENSION

21 sts and 44 rows to 10cm over garter st using 4mm needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

BEARD (beg at top)

Using 4mm needles, cast on 52 (70) sts.

Work 3 rows stocking st.

4th row (foldline) - Knit.

5th row (WS) - Sl 1 purlways, knit to end. Rep 5th row 3 times more ... 8 rows in all.

Beg Mouth Opening -

Next row (RS) - Sl 1 purlways, K20 (26), cast off next 10 (16) sts, knit to end.

Next row - Sl 1 purlways, K20 (26), turn, cast on 10 (16) sts, turn, knit to end.

Next row Sl 1 purlways, K2tog, knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1 ... 50 (68) sts.

Knit 9 (13) rows, slipping first st of every row purlways (as before).

Shape Chin -

Next row (RS) Sl 1 purlways, (K2tog) 3 times, knit to last 7 sts, (K2tog) 3 times, K1 ... 44 (62) sts.

Next row - Sl 1 purlways, knit to end.

Rep last 2 rows 5 (8) times more ... 14 sts.

Next row - Sl 1 purlways, (K2tog) 6 times, K1 ... 8 sts.

Cast off knitways on WS.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Turn top edge at foldline and slip stitch in postion. Wind yarn around a piece of cardboard 10cm long and cut along one edge. Using 2 strands of yarn, fringe evenly along lower edge of mouth opening. Fringe evenly along lower edge of Beard, then fringe evenly over Beard to the desired thickness. Fringe evenly along top edge of Beard, omitting along top of mouth opening if desired. Trim fringing. Thread braided elastic through casing at top edge, draw up to fit across face and around each ear. Sew each end of elastic securely in position to each side edge of casing for ear loops.
