Advent Calendar Booties Project

What You'll Need:

  • 4 Seasons Brighton Cotton Blend 50g x 10 balls:
    2 balls x Colour 1 (C1)
    1 ball Colour 2 (C2)
    1 ball Colour 3 (C3)
    1 ball Colour 4 (C4)
    1 ball Colour 5 (C5)
    1 ball colour 6 (C6)
    1 ball Colour 7 (C7)
    1 ball Colour 8 (C8)
    1 ball Colour 9 (C9)
  • 4mm Crochet hook
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure.

Tension

Correct tension is not important for this project.


Abbreviations

tbl = Through back loop: work through the back part of the st, leaving a 'ridge' at the front of the st

htr2tog = Half treble 2 sts together: yarn over, insert hook in next st, draw a loop through, insert hook in next st, draw a loop through, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.

INSTRUCTIONS

Basic Bootie

Using C2 and 4mm hook, make 10ch.

1st round (WS) - 3dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in each of next 7ch, 5dc in last ch, rotate to work along opp side of ch, 1dc in each of next 7ch, 2dc in same ch as 3dc at beg, sl st into dc at beg ... 24 sts.

2nd round - 2ch (counts as 1htr), 2htr in next st, 1htr in each of next 9 sts, 2htr in next st, 1htr in next st, 2htr in next st, 1htr in each of next 9 sts, 2htr in next st, sl st in 2nd of 2ch at beg ... 28 sts.

3rd round - 2ch, turn to work in opp direction (RS ), 1htr in next st, 2htr in next st, 1htr in each of next 9 sts, 2htr in next st, 1htr in each of next 3 sts, 2htr in next st, 1htr in each of next 9 sts, 2htr in next st, 1htr in next st, sl st into 2nd of 2ch at beg ... 32 sts.

4th round - 2ch, 1htr in back loop of each st around, sl st into 2nd of 2ch at beg.

5th round - Rep 4th round.

6th round - 2ch, turn to work in opp direction, 1htr in each of next 9 sts, (htr2tog) 6 times, 1htr in each of next 10 sts, sl st into 2nd of 2ch at beg ... 26 sts.

7th round - 2ch, 1htr in each of next 6 sts, (htr2tog) 6 times, 1htr in each of next 7 sts, sl st into 2nd of 2ch at beg ... 20 sts.

8th round - 2ch, turn to work in opp direction, 1htr in each of next 7 sts, (htr2tog) twice, 1htr in each of next 8 sts, sl st into 2nd of 2ch at beg ... 18 sts.

9th round - 3ch (counts as 1tr), 1tr in each st around, sl st into 3rd of 3ch at beg.

Change to C1 - 10th round - 3ch, 1tr in each st around, sl st into 3rd of 3ch at beg.

11th round - 3ch, 1tr in same st, *1tr in each of next 5 sts, 2tr in next st, rep from * once more, 1tr in each of next 5 sts, sl st into 3rd of 3ch at beg ... 21 sts.

12th round - 3ch, 1tr in each st around, sl st into 3rd of 3ch at beg. Fasten off, leaving a tail to stitch back of cuff in position.

Make 8 booties working 1st - 9th rounds in one colour and 10th-12th rounds in C1.

Make 8 booties working 1st - 3rd rounds in one colour, 4th-9th rounds in another colour and 10th-12th rounds in C1.

Make 8 booties working 1st-3rd rounds in one colour, 4th round in another colour, 5th-9th rounds in the same colour as 1st-3rd rounds and 10th-12th rounds in C1.


Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Sew in ends. Sew cuffs in place. Arrange order of booties as desired. Using C1 and 4mm hook, make 20ch, sl st into 1st ch to make a loop, 20ch, 1tr in top edge of cuff at the back of 1st bootie, * 20ch, 1tr in top edge of cuff at the back of next bootie, rep from * until last bootie is attached, 40ch, sl st into 20th ch from hook. Fasten off and sew in ends.

Note - One idea to add numbers to the booties is to cut out numbers from Silver Vinyl using a Cricut machine and stick to the side of each bootie as pictured.




Striped Bootie

Stocking (Begin at top)

Using 3.25mm needles and C1, cast on 27 sts.

Knit 3 rows garter st (1st row is WS).


Begin Stripe Pattern

Work 4 rows stocking st in stripes of 2 rows C2 and 2 rows C3, beg with a knit row.
Last 4 rows form stripe pattern.

Work a further 10 rows stocking st, thus ending with 2 rows C2.


Turn Heel

Note - When pattern specifies turn - proceed as follows to avoid holes in work. Take yarn under needle and onto other side of work, slip next st onto right-hand needle, take yarn under needle and back to original position, slip st back onto left-hand needle, then turn and proceed as instructed in pattern.

1st row (RS) - K7 C3, K13 C1, turn. Do not break off C3.

Using C1 only, 2nd row - Sl 1, P12, turn.

3rd row - Sl 1, K11, turn.

4th row - Sl 1, P10, turn.

5th row - Sl 1, K9, turn.

6th row - Sl 1, P8, turn.

7th row - Sl 1, K7, turn.

8th row - Sl 1, P6, turn.

9th row - Sl 1, K5, turn.

10th row - Sl 1, P4, turn.

11th row - Sl 1, K3, turn.

12th row - Sl 1, P2, turn.

13th row - Sl 1, K1, turn.

Break off C1.

Slip 7 sts in C1 from right-hand needle back onto left-hand needle.

Pick up C3 and knit across all sts to end of row, thus completing heel ... 27 sts.

Work a further 11 rows stripe patt, beg with 1 row C3.


Shape Toe

Using C1 only for rem, work 2 rows stocking st.

3rd row (RS) - K4, K2tog, K4, sl 1, K1, psso, K3, K2tog, K4, sl 1, K1, psso, K4 ... 23 sts.

4th row - Purl.

5th row - K4, K2tog, K3, sl 1, K1, psso, K1, K2tog, K3, sl 1, K1, psso, K4 ... 19 sts.

6th row - Purl.

7th row - K4, K2tog, K1, sl 1, K1, psso, K1, K2tog, K1, sl 1, K1, psso, K4 ... 15 sts.

Break off C1, leaving a long end.

Thread C1 through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely, leaving a long end. The


Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Using long end of C1 left at toe and mattress st, join foot and leg seam. Using 3mm crochet hook and C1, make a length of chain 15cm long. Thread chain through top of bootee as pictured. Join ends of chain tog to form hanging loop.

Note - One idea to add numbers to the booties is to cut out numbers from Silver Vinyl using a Cricut machine and stick to the side of each bootie as pictured.
