INSTRUCTIONS

Pink Backpack

Step 1 - Fold tabs in half lengthwise, right sides together. Sew 6mm seam along edge. Turn inside out and press. Fold in half, raw edges together.

Step 2 - Place 1 piece of fabric face up on table. Position tabs at bottom of sides and sew in place. Place second piece of fabric face down on top and pin sides and bottom. Sew around these three sides.

Step 3 - Turn over 6mm at top of bag and press. Turn over another 5cm and press. Sew close along edge.

Step 4 - Repeat this process on the other side, starting from the right tying half inch knots into the centre working on a diagonal angle. This will complete the first V row, to create a diagonal clove hitch knot.

Step 5 - Clip corners at bottom and turn right side out. Press. Thread rope through top and through tabs and knot ends. Do the same with rope on other side.

Blue Backpack

Step 1 - Make pocket. Fold under 6mm on sides and bottom of pocket. Position in the middle 7cm up from bottom. Attach sides and bottom of pocket.

Step 2 - Make straps. Fold straps in half lengthwise, right sides together. Sew 6mm seam along edge. Turn inside out and press.

Step 3 - Place 1 piece of patterned fabric face up on table. Position one end of straps at bottom of sides and sew in place. Place second piece of fabric face down on top and pin sides and bottom. Sew around these three sides.

Step 4 - Turn over 6mm at top of bag and press. Turn over another 4cm and press. Unfold, find centre front and make a button hole on either side of centre mark, 4cm apart, so that the holes will be on front when refolded. Open buttonholes and refold pressed edges. Sew close along edge.

Step 5 - Make flap. Sew rounded edge through 4 layers, leaving straight edge open. Clip curves and turn right side out and press. Quilt in a diamond pattern. Zig zag across straight edge to tidy. Centre flap on back edge of bag and attach to very top of bag.

Step 6 - Attach top ends of straps, one on left of flap and the other on the right side of flap, making sure straps are not twisted.

Step 6 - Thread rope through pocket and knot ends.
