Diy Weaver Boho Bag & Device Case Project

LEVEL: BEGINNER

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick x 1 ball each (A-colour 1), (B-colour 2), (C-colour 3), (D-colour 4), (E-colour 5 - For colour 5 you can use Spot Saver, Jet or Tolve)
  • Lion Brand Yarn DIY Weaver Starter Kit
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Lion Brand Yarn DIY Weaver Extender Kit
  • 1 button approx 6.5cm long for Bag
  • 2 buttons approx 2cm diameter and approx 15cm of leather lacing for Case
  • Scissors, sewing needle and thread

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: The bag is worked in one piece, then folded and seamed. The device case is worked lengthways across the loom bases, then folded and seamed.

When changing colours, cut the completed colour leaving a long end. Begin weaving with the new colour leaving a long end. These ends will be woven in later.

BAG

Loom Set Up - Following DIY Weaver Extender kit manual instructions, connect the loom base from starter kit to loom base from extender kit. Insert 28 standard pegs along bottom and top rows of loom bases - 56 pegs placed for warp.

Warp - Following manual instructions for Warping, set up the warp across 56 pegs using A.

Weft - Following manual instructions for Basic Weaving, work as follows:
5 rows using B
10 rows using A
4 rows using D
Following manual instructions for 2 x 2 Weaving, work 2 rows using D.
Following manual instructions for Basic Weaving, work as follows:
4 rows using D
6 rows using C
4 rows using 2 strands of E
4 rows using B
Following manual instructions for 2 x 2 Weaving, work as follows:
2 rows using B
2 rows using 2 strands of E
2 rows using A
Following manual instructions for Basic Weaving, work 4 rows using A.
Following manual instructions for 2 x 2 Weaving, work as follows:
1 row using C
2 rows using A
Following manual instructions for Basic Weaving, work as follows:
3 rows using A
3 rows using B
Following manual instructions for 2 x 2 Weaving, work as follows:
1 row using B
1 row using D
Repeat last 2 rows 5 times more. Continue in 2 x 2 Weaving and work as follows:
1 row using B
1 row using A
1 row using D
Repeat last 2 rows 5 times more, then work 7 rows using A. Following manual instructions for Basic Weaving, work 6 rows using B.
Following video instructions for Satin Weaving, work 11 rows using 2 strands of E.
Following manual instructions for Basic Weaving, work 2 rows using C.
Following manual instructions for Basic Weaving, work the remainder of the warp using B.

FINISHING

Remove Weaving from Loom - Carefully lift all the loops up and off the pegs. Fold Bag in half and whipstitch sides together using 1 strand of A.

Strap - Cut 3 strands of 3 colours of choice, each strand approx 300cm long (total of 9 strands). Knot strands together approx 14cm from one end. Divide the strands into 3 groups of 3 strands each, then braid for desired length for strap. Knot strands together at end of braid. Using sewing needle and thread, sew to each side of bag, over whipstitches. Trim yarn at each end of braid. Using sewing needle and thread, sew button to centre front of Bag. Cut a 25.5cm length of C for button loop. Fold length in half and make a knot 5cm from fold. Sew button loop on inside back of Bag to correspond with button.

Tassels - Make 4 tassels in desired lengths and colours. Attach securely 2 tassels to each bottom corner of Bag as pictured.

DEVICE CASE

Loom Set Up - Following DIY Weaver Extender kit manual instructions, connect loom base from starter kit to loom base from extender kit.

Following diagram, insert 112 pegs into loom base for warp.
Warp - Following manual instructions for Warping, set up the warp across 56 pegs using A.
Weft - Following manual instructions for Basic Weaving, work 2 rows using 2 strands of E.
Following video instructions for Satin Weaving from Lionbrand.com, work as follows:
12 rows using 2 strands of E, 5 rows using 1 strand of A, 5 rows using 1 strand of C, 3 rows using 1 strand of B.
Following manual instructions for Basic Weaving, work the remainder of the warp using 1 strand of B.

FINISHING

Remove Weaving from Loom - Carefully lift all the loops up and off the pegs. Fold Case leaving a 9 cm long flap and whipstitch sides together. Sew one button at centre front of flap and one button on front of Case, just below flap. Wrap leather lacing around buttons to close Case.
