INSTRUCTIONS

ABBREVIATIONS

alt = alternate, beg = begin/ning, cont = continue, dec = decrease, foll = follows/following, inc = increase, K = knit, garter st = every row knit, patt = pattern, P = purl, rem = remain, remaining, rep = repeat, RS = right side, st/s = stitch/es, tog = together, WS = wrong side, yfwd = yarn forward (to make a stitch).

BACK

Using 4mm needles, cast on 45 (53-59-65) sts. Work in garter st (every row knit, first row is WS) until Back measures 22 (25-28-32) cm from beg, working last row on
WS.

Shape Shoulders -

Cast off 7 (8-10-11) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 6 (8-9-10) sts at beg of foll 2 rows.
Cast off rem 19 (21-21-23) sts.

LEFT FRONT

Using 4mm needles, cast on 22 (26-29-32) sts.
Work in garter st (first row is WS) until Left Front is 11 rows less than back to shoulder shaping. **

Shape Neck -

Next row (WS) - Cast off 4 (5-5-6) sts, knit to end ... 18 (21-24-26) sts.
Dec one st at neck edge in next row, then in every foll alt row until 13 (16-19-21) sts rem. Work 1 row.

*** Shape Shoulder -

Cast off 7 (8-10-11) sts at beg of next row.
Work 1 row.
Cast off rem 6 (8-9-10) sts.

RIGHT FRONT

Work as for Left Front to **. Work 1 row.

Shape Neck -

Next row - Cast off 4 (5-5-6) sts, knit to end ... 18 (21-24-26) sts.
Dec one st at neck edge in next 2 rows, then in every foll alt row until 13 (16-19-21) sts rem.
Work 2 rows. Complete as for Left Front from *** to end.

SLEEVES

Using 4mm needles, cast on 29 (31-33-33) sts. Work in garter st (first row is WS) until Sleeve measures 4 (4-5-5) cm from beg, working last row on WS.
Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark end of cuff. Change to 3.25mm needles.
Cont in garter st, inc one st at each end of 5th row, then in every foll 6th row until there are 35 (37-41-41) sts. Change to 4mm needles.
Cont in garter st, inc one st at each end of every foll 6th row until there are 41 (47-51-55) sts.
Cont without further shaping until Sleeve measures 11 (13-16-19) cm from coloured threads, working last row on WS. Cast off loosely.

RIGHT FRONT BAND

Using mattress st, join shoulder seams. With right side facing, using 3.25mm needles, knit up 41 (47-53-61) sts evenly along right front edge. Work 3 rows garter st.
4th row - K3, * K2tog, yfwd (buttonhole), K5 (5-7-9), rep from * twice, knit to end.
Work 3 rows. Cast off loosely.

LEFT FRONT BAND

Work as for Right Front Band, omitting buttonholes.

HOOD

Using 4mm needles, cast on 72 (76-84-90) sts.
Work in garter st (first row is WS) until hood measures 19 (22-25-28) cm from beg, working last row on WS. Cast off loosely.

TO MAKE UP

DO NOT PRESS. Tie coloured threads 10 (11-12-13) cm down from shoulder seam on side edges of Back and Fronts to mark armholes. Sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeve to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams, reversing seam for rows below coloured threads for cuffs. Turn back cuffs onto RS. Fold hood in half and join cast-off edge tog, reversing seam for 4 (4-5-5) cm for brim. Turn back brim and stitch in place. Sew cast-on edge of hood evenly around neck edge, beg and ending at centre of front bands, sewing through both thicknesses of brim and easing to fit at back neck. Sew on buttons. Sew in ends.
