BAMBINI BABY BONNET

LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• Bella Baby Bambini Print 50g x 1 ball.
• 1 pair 3.25 mm knitting needles and one 3.25mm circular needle, or size required to give correct tension.
• Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure.
• 1 small button.

INSTRUCTIONS

HAT

Centre Back and Top Front Panel

Using pair 3.25mm needles, cast on 19 (23) sts. Work 10 rows stocking st. Dec one st at each end of next row and foll 8th row...15 (19) sts. Work 1 row. Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row for sewing up purposes. Cont in stocking st for 4 (5) cm, ending with a purl row. Tie a second coloured thread at each end of last row for sewing up purposes. Inc one st at each end of next row and foll 14th row. Work 9 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row. Tie a third coloured thread at each end of last row to mark fold for front. Work 8 (10) rows stocking st.
Dec one st at each end of next row...17 (21) sts. Work 9 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row. Cast off loosely.

Right Side Panel

Using pair 3.25mm needles, cast on 21 (25) sts. Work 10 rows stocking st. Inc one st at end of next row and foll 8th row...23 (27) sts. Work 1 row. Tie a coloured thread at beg of last row for sewing up purposes. Cont in stocking st for 4 (5) cm, ending with a purl row. Tie a second coloured thread at beg of last row for sewing up purposes. Dec one st at end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 17 (21) sts rem, then at same edge in every row until 14 (16) sts rem. Cast off loosely.

Left Side Panel

Using pair 3.25mm needles, cast on 21 (25) sts. Work 10 rows stocking st. Inc one st at beg of next row and foll 8th row...23 (27) sts.
Work 1 row. Tie a coloured thread at end of last row for sewing up purposes. Cont in stocking st for 4 (5) cm, ending with a purl row. Tie a second coloured thread at end of last row for sewing up purposes.
Dec one st at beg of next row, then in every foll alt row until 17 (21) sts rem, then at same edge in every row until 14 (16) sts rem. Cast off loosely. Using mattress st seam, join Back and Top Front Panel to Side Panels, matching coloured threads and easing to fit.

Face Band

With RS facing and using 3.25mm circular needle, knit up 37 (39) sts evenly along straight side edge of Right Side Panel, knit up 13 (15) sts evenly across cast off edge of Top Front Panel, then 37 (39) sts evenly along straight side edge of Left Side Panel...87 (93) sts.

Note - Work in rows, not rounds.

1st row (WS) - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.
2nd row - K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1. Rep 1st and 2nd rows 3 times, then 1st row once...9 rows rib in all. Cast off loosely in rib.

Lower Neck Band

Using pair 3.25mm needles, cast on 16 sts, turn, with RS facing, knit up 6 sts evenly along side edge of left side edge of Face Band, knit up 19 (21) sts evenly along cast on edge of Left Side Panel, knit up 17 (21) sts evenly along cast on edge of centre Back Panel, knit up 19 (21) sts evenly along cast on edge of Right Side Panel, knit up 6 sts evenly along side edge of right side edge of Face Band, turn, cast on 16 sts &hellip 99 (107) sts.
Work 3 rows rib as for face band, beg with a 1st row.
4th row - Rib to last 7 sts, cast off 2 sts, rib 5.
5th row - Rib 5, turn, cast on 2 sts, turn, rib to end...buttonhole.
Work 4 rows rib. Cast off loosely in rib.

EARS (make 4 pieces)

Using pair 3.25mm needles, cast on 11 sts. Work in stocking st until work measures 3cm from beg, ending with a purl row. Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 3 sts rem. Work 1 row. Cast off loosely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st seam, join Ear Pieces together to form two Ears. Place centre of each Ear to seam of centre Front Panel at top of Hat, curving ears slightly as pictured. Sew in ends. Sew on button to correspond with buttonhole.
