What is a party plate?

A party plate is a dining plate made for use at events. They are often disposable, but many are made from recyclable or biodegradable materials, or can even be carefully wiped clean and reused. Party plates tend to be more bright and colourful than everyday dinner plates.

How many plates do I need for a party?

You will want enough plates for all your guests to use - it's good to aim for at least two plates per guest, as guests may spill food and drink on their first plate and want to use a second. You may also like to use party plates to hold snacks for guests to pick from, so make sure you have some bigger plates for piles of snacks like chips, lollies and fruit.

Can I reuse party plates?

Depending on what they're made from, you may be able to reuse your party plates. Very light paper plates and any plates made from natural materials can absorb liquids, which makes them unsafe to use. Hard plastic plates that haven't cracked or broken can be wiped down with soapy water and used again, but never put them in the dishwasher as this can damage them.
