BALSA WIZARD WANDS

Balsa Wizard Wands Project

LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Balsa Dowel Rod 12.5mm (Blue End)
  • Large Acrylic Beads
  • Hot Glue Gun & Sticks
  • Dazzling Metallics 59ml Paint in desired colours

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

Cut your balsa dowel to the desired length using scissors. 30cm should be approximately right, but this could be adjusted up or down to suit the height of your wizard.

STEP 2

Using a hot glue gun, glue your gem to one end of the dowel and begin to form a point out of glue at the other.

STEP 3

Drizzle the entire length of your dowel with hot glue to create a gnarled-wood kind of appearance. Put extra layers at the end with the gem to create a tapered look or form a handle. You may need to twirl your wand or tip it in one direction or another while the glue is still warm to affect the pattern you are creating. Finish by adding swirls or any other details you&rsquod like to include.

STEP 4

Once the glue has cooled and stiffened completely, paint your wand using Dazzling Metallic Paints. You can choose any colour you like...Rich Espresso gives a lovely polished wood-colour finish, but greens, blues and pinks could be good for junior wizards. Special details brought out in Splendid Gold can really add that final touch!
