INSTRUCTIONS

BODY (worked in one piece)

Using 5mm needles and C1, cast on 39 sts loosely.

Work in stocking st until work measures 7cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Shape Body -

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll 6th row until 29 sts rem.

Next row (WS) - Purl.

Beg Head -

Using C2, work 2 rows stocking st.

3rd row (RS) - K1, (inc in next st, K3) 7 times ... 36 sts.

Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

7th row - K1, (inc in next st, K4) 7 times ... 43 sts.

Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

13th row - K1, (inc in next st, K5) 7 times ... 50 sts.

Woork 9 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

23rd row - K1, (K2tog, K5) 7 times ... 43 sts.

Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

29th row - K1, (K2tog, K4) 7 times ... 36 sts.

30th row - Purl.

31st row - K1, (K2tog, K3) times ... 29 sts.

32nd row - Purl.

33rd row - K1, (K2tog) 14 times ... 15 sts.

Break of yarn leaving a long end.

Thread yarn through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

MUZZLE

Using 5mm needles and C1, cast on 25 sts loosely.

1st row (WS) - Purl.

2nd row - K1, (K2tog, K4) 4 times ... 21 sts.

3rd row - Purl.

4th row - K1, (K2tog, K3) 4 times ... 17 sts.

5th row - (P2, P2tog) 4 times, P1 ... 13 sts.

Break off yarn leaving a long end. Thread yarn through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

EARS (make 4 pieces)

Using 5mm needles and C2, cast on 8 sts loosely leaving a long end.

Knit 3 rows garter st (1st row is RS).

4th row - K2, (K2tog) twice, K2 ... 6 sts.

5th row - Knit.

6th row - K1, (K2tog) twice, K1 ... 4 sts.

7th row - Knit.

8th row - (K2tog) twice ... 2 sts.

9th row - K2tog. Fasten off.

LEGS (make 2)

Using 5mm needles and C2, cast on 3 sts.

1st row (RS) - K1, (K1, P1, K1) in next st, K1 ... 5 sts.

2nd row - Purl.

3rd row - Inc in each st to end ... 10 sts.

4th row - Purl.

5th row - (K1, inc in next st) 5 times ... 15 sts.

6th row - Purl.

7th row - (K2, inc in next st) 5 times ... 20 sts.

8th row - Purl.

9th row - (K3, inc in next st) 5 times ... 25 sts.

Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

13th row - (K3, K2tog) 5 times ... 20 sts.

14th row - Purl.

15th row - (K2, K2tog) 5 times ... 15 sts.

Cont in stocking st beg with a purl row, until work measures 22cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Shape Top -

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 3 sts rem.

Next row (WS) - Purl.

Cast off.

ARMS (make 2)

Work as for Legs to .

9th row - (K2, K2tog) 5 times ... 15 sts.

10th row - Purl.

11th row - (K1, K2tog) 5 times ... 10 sts.

Cont in stocking st beg with a purl row, until work measures 15cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Shape Top - Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 2 sts rem.

Next row (WS) - Purl.

Cast off.

NOSE

Using 5mm needles and black yarn, cast on 3 sts.

1st row (RS) - K1, (K1, P1, K1) in next st, K1 ... 5 sts.

2nd row - Purl.

3rd row - (K1, inc in next st) twice, K1 ... 7 sts.

4th row - Purl.

Cast off.

MANE

Using mattress st join lower edge of body tog so that side edges meet at centre back. Join side edges of body and head tog filling firmly with hobby fill as you work. Run a gathering thread around neck and draw up to define the shape of head. Slip stitch 2 pieces of each ear tog and sew in position on head as pictured.

Using 5mm needles and C1, cast on 3 sts.

Beg Loop Patt -

1st row (WS) - Knit.

2nd row - Knit next st on left-hand needle but do not slip st off needle, take yarn from back to front between needles, wrap clockwise around left thumb to form loop, take yarn back through needles to back of work, knit same st on left-hand needle again, slipping both sts onto right-hand needle, insert left-hand needle through fronts of both sts on right-hand needle, then K2tog tbl, repeat process with rem 2 sts on left-hand needle ... 3 loops in all.

Rep last 2 rows until Mane fits (slightly stretched) from under chin, around back of ears and then back to under chin, ending with a knit row.

Cast off loosely.

Using mattress st, join cast on and cast off edge tog. Pin mane in position, placing seam under chin and using C1, slip stitch front side edge securely in position around.

TAIL

Using 5mm needles and C1, cast on 5 sts.

Work 5 rows in loop patt as for Mane, thus working last row on WS.

Using C2 for rem, work in stocking st beg with a knit row, until work measures 20cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Cast off.

FINSHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using long end left on muzzle, join side edges tog, then slip stitch securely in position as pictured. Slip stitch nose in position as pictured, then using black yarn and straight stitch, embroider mouth details. Using C2 and mattress st, join side edges of arms and legs tog to beg of shaping at top, filling with hobby fill as you work. Slip stitch arms and legs in position. Using half mattress st, join side edges of tail tog. Oversew tail tog at top edge and slip st in position to back of body.
