SEWING

Sew using a 1/4" seam allowance with right sides together (RST) unless otherwise indicated. Always press towards the darker fabric while assembling, unless otherwise noted by the arrows.

Block Assembly

Step 1. Sew (1) 1 1/2" x 9 1/2" (3.81cm x 24.13cm) Fabric B strip to each side of (1) 9 1/2" (24.13cm) Fabric A square.

Sew (1) 1 1/2" x 11 1/2" (3.81cm x 29.21cm) Fabric B strip to the top and to the bottom of the Fabric A square. Trim the block to measure 10 1/2" (26.67cm) square to make (1) Block One square (Fig. 1). Repeat to make (8) Block One squares total.

Step 2. Sew (1) 3 1/2" (8.89cm) Fabric E square to each side of (1) 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" (8.89cm x 11.43cm)) Fabric C strip to make the top row. Repeat to make the bottom row. Sew (1) 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" (8.89cm x 11.43cm) Fabric C strip to each side of (1) 4 1/2" (11.43cm) Fabric G square to make the middle row. Sew the (3) rows together to make (1) Block Two square (Fig. 2). Repeat to make (5) Block Two squares total.

Step 3. Place (1) 3 1/2" (8.89cm) Fabric C square on the left side of (1) 3 1/2" x 10 1/2" (8.89cm x 26.67cm) Fabric F strip, right sides together (Fig. 3). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 3). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 4). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a 1/4" (0.64cm) seam allowance.

Step 4. Place another 3 1/2" (8.89cm) Fabric C square on the right side of the 3 1/2" x 10 1/2" (8.89cm x 26.67cm) Fabric F strip, right sides together (Fig. 5). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 5). Flip open the triangle formed and press.

Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a 1/4" (0.64cm) seam allowance to make (1) Unit 1 strip (Fig. 6).

Step 5. Repeat Steps 3-4 to make (24) Unit 1 strips total.

Step 6. Sew (1) 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" (8.89cm x 11.43cm) Fabric F strip to each side of (1) 4 1/2" (11.43cm) Fabric E square to make (1) Unit 2 strip (Fig. 7). Repeat to make (12) Unit 2 strips total.

Step 7. Sew (1) Unit 1 strip to the top and to the bottom of (1) Unit 2 strip lengthwise to make (1) Block Three square (Fig. 8). Repeat to make (12) Block Three squares total.
