INSTRUCTIONS

GENERAL DIRECTIONS:

PLEASE READ THROUGH ALL DIRECTIONS BEFORE CUTTING AND SEWING.

  • All seams are sewn with 1/4" seam allowance.
  • WOF refers to "Width of Fabric".

CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Fabric 1 cut:

(4) 1-1/2" X WOF strips. Sub-cut into (108) 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" squares.
(6) 1-1/2" x WOF strips for border 1.
(8) 2-1/4" x WOF strips for the binding.

Fabric 2 cut:

(6) 1-1/2" X WOF strips. Sub-cut into (144) 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" squares.

Fabric 3 Cut:

(4) 1-1/2" X WOF strips. Sub-cut into (108) 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" squares.

Fabric 4 cut:

(14) 2-1/2" x WOF strips. Sub-cut into (216) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" squares.

Fabric 5 cut:

(3) 2-1/2" X WOF strips. Sub-cut into (36) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" squares.

Fabric 6 Cut:

(3) 2-1/2" X WOF strips. Sub-cut into (36) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" squares.

Fabric 7 cut:

(5) 2-1/2" X WOF strips. Sub-cut into (72) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" squares.

Fabric 8 cut:

(4) 4-1/2" X WOF strips. Sub-cut into (32)

4-1/2" x 4-1/2" squares.

Fabric 9 cut:

(2) 10-1/2" X WOF strips. Sub-cut into (8)

10-1/2" x 10-1/2" squares.

Fabric 10 cut:

(4) 4-1/2" X WOF strips. Sub-cut into (36)

4-1/2" x 4-1/2" squares.

Fabric 11 cut:
(3) 10-1/2" X WOF strips. Sub-cut into (9)
10-1/2" x 10-1/2" squares.
(8) 5-1/2" x WOF strips for border 2.

BLOCK CONSTRUCTION:

BLOCK 1

1. Sew a 1-1/2" Fabric 1 square to a 1-1/2" Fabric 2 square. Make (72) pairs. Press to Fabric 1.

2. Sew two Fab1/Fab2 pairs together. Make (36) A four-patch. Press to one side.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 with the 1-1/2" Fabric 3 and 1-1/2" Fabric 2 squares. Make (36) B four-patch.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 with the 1-1/2" Fabric 1 and 1-1/2" Fabric 3 squares. Make (18) C four-patch.

Row A

4. Sew (1) A four-patch, (1) B four-patch, (2) 2-1/2" Fabric 4 squares, and (1) 2-1/2" Fabric 7 square as illustrated. Press in the direction of the arrows. Make (36).

Row B

5. Sew (3) 2-1/2" Fabric 4 squares, (1) 2-1/2" Fabric 5 square and (1) 2-1/2" Fabric 6 square as illustrated. Press in the direction of the arrows. Make (36).

Row C

6. Sew (1) C four-patch, (2) 2-1/2" Fabric 4 squares, and (2) 2-1/2" Fabric 7 square as illustrated. Press in the direction of the arrows. Make (18).

7. Sew rows A, B, and C as illustrated making sure to rotate rows A and B. Press rows in one direction. Make (18) Block 1.
Block 2A (Make 9)

8. Draw a diagonal line on the backs of the (36) 4-1/2" Fabric 10 squares.

9. Place a Fabric 10 square, right sides together on each corner of a 10-1/2" Fabric 11 square. Sew on the diagonal line and trim 1/4" from line. Block 2B (Make 8)

10. Draw a diagonal line on the backs of the (32) 4-1/2" Fabric 8 squares.

11. Repeat step 9 with the small Fabric 8 squares and the 10-1/2" Fabric 9 square.

QUILT CONSTRUCTION:

Follow the quilt layout on the following page.

12. Lay out the blocks as illustrated, alternating Blocks 1, 2A and 2B in five blocks across and seven blocks down.

13. Sew the blocks together in rows. Press towards Block A.

14. Sew the rows together. Press in one direction.

BORDER CONSTRUCTION:

15. Sew the (6) 1-1/2" Fabric 1 strips short ends together with diagonal seams.

16. Measure through the vertical center of the quilt. Trim (2) strips to this measurement. Matching centers and ends, pin and sew to the sides of the quilt.

17. Measure through the horizontal center of the quilt. Trim (2) strips to this measurement. Matching centers and ends, pin and sew to top and bottom of the quilt.

18. Repeat steps 15 through 17 with the 5-1/2" Fabric 12 strips. Layer top, batting and pieced backing and quilt as desired.
Sew the (8) 2-1/4" Fabric 1 strips short ends together with diagonal seams. Fold in half wrong sides together lengthwise. Line up raw edges and sew to front of the quilt with 3/8" seam mitering corners as you sew. Turn binding to back and hand sew down.
