WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • 50cm of 9 Metallicus quilting fabrics
  • 1.6m of 2 white Metallicus quilting fabric
  • 1.6m batting
  • Basting spray

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1. To make this metallicus quilt we first need to cut 100 squares 17x17cm and 25 squares 32x32cm from a mix of all 11 metallicus quilting fabrics, and two 10x160cm strips from each of your white metallicus fabrics.

Step 2. Sew with a 1cm seam allowance.

Step 3. To make the top patchwork start by sewing your small squares together into random strips of 5. Once you have 20 strips together, layout your patchwork in a random mix, avoid setting the same metallicus fabrics side by side.

Step 4. Sew your strips together along their length until you have two large rectangles 5x10 squares sew these together and press. You should be left with a patchwork approximately 152x152cm.

Step 5. To make your backing patchwork/sew random large squares together to create 5 strips 5 squares long. Layout your backing patchwork in a random mix, sew your 5 strips together and press.

Step 6. Baste your patchworks to either side of your batting and pin.

Step 7. Sew all three layers together before you trim away any excess.
Step 8. To create your border fold and press your long strips with one side folded over 3cm.

Step 9. Lay a folded strip along the back edge of your quilt and sew along its edge.

Step 10. Fold the excess in half and then fold over onto the front patchwork, sew along the new edge. Repeat steps 9-10 for the three remaining edges, turning in your corners for a neat finish.
