To Fit Head (approx): 56 cm

TENSION

21 sts and 30 rows to 10cm over purl fabric, using 4.50mm needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

BEANIE

Using 4mm needles, cast on 105 sts.

Knit in garter st (1st row is WS) until work measures 6cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Change to 4.50mm needles.

Work in purl fabric (1 row P - RS, 1 row K - WS), until work measures 19cm from beg, ending with a knit row and dec 2 sts evenly across last row ... 103 sts.

Shape Crown - 1st row (RS) - P1, P2tog, P4, rep from to end ... 86 sts.

Work 3 rows purl fabric (beg with a knit row).

5th row - P1, P2tog, P3, rep from to end ... 69 sts.

Work 3 rows purl fabric (beg with a knit row).

9th row - P1, P2tog, P2, rep from to end ... 52 sts.

Work 3 rows purl fabric (beg with a knit row).

13th row - P1, P2tog, P1, rep from to end ... 35 sts.

Work 3 rows purl fabric (beg with a knit row).

17th row - P1, P2tog, rep from to end ... 18 sts.

18th row - Knit.

Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side edges together to form centre back seam, noting purl side is RS.
