LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Lionbrand Heartland 1 x 142g ball Main Colour
  • (M) and 1 x 142g ball Contrast Colour (C) for each Tree
  • 1 pair 5.50mm knitting needles
  • 1 pair 4mm knitting needles
  • 1 Shamrockcraft 100mm styrene cone
  • 1 Shamrockcraft 200mm styrene cone
  • 1 Shamrockcraft 250mm styrene cone
  • Double sided tape
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

INSTRUCTIONS

SMALL TREE

Using 5.50mm needles and M, cast on 6 sts.

1st row (RS) - Purl.
2nd row - K1, (K1, P1, K1) in next st, P3tog, K1.
3rd row - Inc in first st, P4, inc in last st ... 8 sts.
4th row - K1, (K1, P1, K1) in next st, P3tog, (K1, P1, K1) in next st, K2 ... 10 sts.
5th row - Inc in first st, purl to last st, inc in last st ... 12 sts.
6th row - K1, * (K1, P1, K1) in next st, P3tog, rep from * once, (K1, P1, K1) in next st, K2 ... 14 sts.
7th row - Inc in first st, purl to last st, Inc in last st... 16 sts.
8th row - K1, * (P1, K1, P1) in next st, P3tog, rep from * to last 3 sts, (K1, P1, K1), K2 ... 18 sts.
9th row - Inc in first st, purl to last st, Inc in last st... 20 sts. **Rep 8th and 9th rows until there are 46 sts. Next row (RS) - Purl. Cast off loosely knitways.

STAR

Using 4mm needles and C, cast on 5 sts. Knit 3 rows garter st.
4th row Sl 1, K3, using left-hand needle, lift 2nd,
3rd and 4th sts on right-hand needle over 1st st on right-hand needle, K1 ... 2 sts.
5th row - Knit.
6th row - Cast on 3 sts, knit to end ... 5 sts. Rep last 6 rows 4 more times. Cast off. Using mattress st, join cast on and cast off edges tog. Using yarn needle, thread yarn through edge of centre of star and draw up tightly. Fasten off securely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side edges of knitted Tree tog to form a cone shape. Run a piece of double sided tape along lower edge of 100mm cone. Slip knitted Tree over cone and mould to shape, fastening on double sided tape. Sew star in position on Tree as pictured.

MEDIUM TREE

Work as for Small Tree to **. Cont in patt inc (as before) in every row until there are 54 sts. Next row - Purl. Cast off loosely knitways.

STAR

Using 4mm needles and C, cast on 6 sts. Knit 3 rows garter st.
4th row - Sl 1, K3, using left-hand needle, lift 2nd, 3rd and 4th sts on right-hand needle over 1st st on right-hand needle, K2 ... 3 sts.
5th row - Knit.
6th row - Cast on 3 sts, knit to end ... 6 sts. Rep last 6 rows 4 more times. Cast off. Using mattress st, join cast on and cast off edges tog. Using yarn needle, thread yarn through edge of centre of star and draw up tightly. Fasten off securely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side edges of knitted Tree tog to form a cone shape. Run a piece of double sided tape along lower edge of 200mm cone. Slip knitted Tree over cone and mould to shape, fastening on double sided tape. Sew star in position on Tree as pictured.

LARGE TREE

Work as for Small Tree to **. Cont in patt inc (as before) in every row until there are 54 sts.
Next row Purl.
Next row - K1, * P3tog, (K1, P1, K1) in next st, rep from * to last 5 sts, P3tog, K2 ... 52 sts.
Next row - Purl.
Next row - K1, * (K1, P1, K1) in next st, P3tog, rep from * to last 3 sts, (K1, P1, K1) in next st, K2. Cont in patt (as placed in last 4 rows) without further inc, until work fits (slightly stretched over 250mm cone, working last row on RS. Cast off loosely knitways.

STAR

Using 4mm needles and C, cast on 6 sts. Knit 3 rows garter st.

4th row - Sl 1, K3, using left-hand needle, lift 2nd, 3rd and 4th sts on right-hand needle over 1st st on right-hand needle, K2 ... 3 sts.
5th row - Knit.
6th row - Cast on 3 sts, knit to end ... 6 sts. Rep last 6 rows 4 more times. Cast off. Using mattress st, join cast on and cast off edges tog. Using yarn needle, thread yarn through edge of centre of star and draw up tightly. Fasten off securely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side edges of knitted Tree tog to form a cone shape. Run a piece of double sided tape along lower edge of 250mm cone. Slip knitted Tree over cone and mould to shape, fastening on double sided tape. Sew star in position on Tree as pictured.
