AFL Stripe Scarf & Pillow Blanket Project

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Scarf

  • 40cm AFL team stripe fleece (Richmond)
  • Matching Gutermann thread (black)
  • *Optional - Rotary cutter, mat & quilters ruler
  • Pins, tape measure
  • Scissors, seam ripper
  • Sewing machine

*Using rotary cutter & quilters ruler makes it easier to straighten the edge of the fleece.

Fleece Pillow Blanket

  • 2m AFL logo fleece (Richmond)
  • Matching Gutermann thread (black)
  • *Optional - Rotary cutter, mat & quilters ruler
  • Pins, tape measure
  • Scissors, seam ripper
  • Sewing machine

*Using rotary cutter & quilters ruler makes it easier to straighten the edge of the fleece.
Read all instructions carefully before commencing the project.

INSTRUCTIONS

SCARF

Step 1. Straighten one end of the fleece and cut a 38cm wide strip across the width of the fabric. Trim off selvedges.

Step 2. Fold the strip in half lengthways with right sides facing and pin together along the open edge. Using a 1cm seam allowance sew together down the edge starting and finishing 15cm from each end.

Step 3. Cut a fringe along each end 15cm long x 2.5cm wide. Turn scarf right sides out.

Step 4. Take the first top and bottom fringe and knot together. Repeat along both ends.

FLEECE PILLOW BLANKET

Step 1. Straighten one end of the fleece and cut a 155cm length across the width of the fabric.

Note - the logo should be running down the length of fabric. Trim selvedge from one side then cut the blanket 115cm wide.

Step 2. To hem the edge of the blanket turn under 10cm and stitch.

CUSHION

Step 1.Cut two 45cm squares from remaining fleece.

Step 2.Turn top edge of each square under 10cm and stitch. Note - top edge is top of logo.

Step 3.Pin squares together around remaining 3 sides with right sides facing. Sew the 3 sides together using a 5mm seam allowance. Leave cushion wrong side out.

SEW CUSHION TO BLANKET

Step 1.Mark the centre top of blanket and the centre bottom of cushion.

Step 2.Place the cushion, which is wrong side out, on top of wrong side of the blanket matching centre bottom of cushion with centre top of blanket (see diagram).

Step 3.Sew cushion to blanket along 3 sides along the previous stitching line and leaving the hemmed edge of cushion unstitched.

Step 4.To fold - place blanket wrong side down, fold long edges over the centre into 3rds. Fold bottom end up 3 times and flip cushion right side out.
