MACRAME POT PLANTS

Macrame Pot Plants Project

LEVEL: EASY

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Style A

Style B & C

  • As Style A, replacing 3 packets of 20mm beads, with 2 packets of 25mm beads.

Style D

  • As Style A, plus 2 packets of 25mm beads.

INSTRUCTIONS

Cut 12 length of cord 4 metres long each and 2 extra lengths of cord 1m long each.

Note - We recommend winding a length of adhesive tape around each end of each cord in a diagonal manner into a point, not only will this prevent the cords from unravelling, but will also make it easier when threading beads onto cords.

Fold 6 x 4 metre length in half and mark centre with adhesive tape around cords. Rep with rem 6 x 4 metre lengths.

Pass the first 6 lengths through the metal ring, placing adhesive marker on ring so 6 even lengths are hanging over each side of ring.

Remove marker. Place remaining 6 lengths on top of the first 6 lengths in same manner.

Remove marker.

Using 1 x 1 metre length beg a wrapped knot by tying an overhand knot at one end and securing with tape to ring on one side of 4 metre cords.

Fold the same 1 x 1 metre length 7cm below the knot, then return length back up to knot.

Using adhesive tape, hold fold in position to 4 metre lengths.

Wrap the long end of cord firmly around all cords until the wrapped section measures approx 3cm.

Thread the remaining end through the folded loop and remove tape holding fold in position.

Remove tape from knotted end and pull gently, so that the fold and remaining end are drawn inside the wrapped knot, finishing when it reaches centre of drawn knot.

Trim rem ends carefully at edges of wrapped knot. Divide remaining groups into 6 groups of 4 cords, winding each group into a bundle around your hand, then securing with an elastic band around each bundle, leaving first group of 4 cords free for first sennit. For ease of following instructions number the four cords from right to left 1,2,3 and 4 - thus the 2 outer cords are 1 and 4 and the 2 centre cords are 2 and 3.

Begin Square Knots

Step 1 - Move cord 1 from right to left over cords 2 and 3 and under cord 4.

Step 2 - Move cord 4 from left to right under cords 2 and 3 and over cord 1.

Pull cords 1 and 4 to tighten firmly. Steps one and two form one half square knot.

Cord 1 is now on the left-hand side and cord 4 is now on the right-hand side.

Step 3 - Move cord 1 from left to right over cords 2 and 3 and under cord 4.

Step 4 - Move cord 4 from right to left under cords 2 and 3 and over cord 4.

Pull cords 1 and 4 to tight firmly. Steps 1 to 4 inclusive form a square knot.

Continue making square knots until sennit measures approx 10cm from beginning.

Add Beads

Thread cords 2 and 3 through one of the large size beads first, then thread cords

1 and 4 through bead so they sit on top of cords 2 and 3.

Swap cords so that cords 2 and 3 (the longest cords) become 1 and 4 and previous cords 1 and 4 become 2 and 3. This will help in keeping lengths balanced

Begin Spiral Knots

Work steps 1 and 2 of square knots (half square knots).

Continue repeating steps 1 and 2 to form spiral knots until sennet measures 10cm from bead.

Work steps 3 to 4 of square knot once to finish.

Repeat from to for each subsequent bundle until all 6 sennets are completed.

Begin Cradle

Select cords 1 and 2 from one sennet and cord 3 and 4 from next sennet to the right and fasten with an elastic band 20cm from end of spiral knots, taking care to keep cords even.

Repeat from left to right around work until 6 new sennets are placed for cradle.

Number cords from each new sennet 1 to 4 from right to left (as before).

Work 2 square knots on each sennet around.

Rep from to once.

Bundle all 24 cords together with an elastic band 10cm below last square knots worked.

Work a wrapped knot with remaining 1 x 1 metre length (as before).

Trim 24 cords to one length. Slip one smaller bead onto each cord and tie a knot to fasten.

Style B

Work as for Style A to second of Select cords 1 and 2 from one sennet and cord 3 and 4 from next sennet to the right and fasten with an elastic band 20cm from end of spiral knots, taking care to keep cords even.

Repeat from left to right around work until 6 new sennets are placed for cradle.

Number cords from each new sennet 1 to 4 from right to left (as before).

Work 2 square knots on each sennet around. Thread one smaller size bead on cords 2 and 3 of each sennet around.

Work 2 square knots under each bead around to hold each bead in position.

Bundle all 24 cords together with an elastic band 10cm below last square knots worked.

Work a wrapped knot with remaining 1 x 1 metre length (as before).

Trim 24 cords to one length.

Style C

Work as for Style A to second of .

Thread one smaller size bead on cords 2 and 3 of each sennet around.

Work 2 square knots under each bead around to hold each bead in position.

Bundle all 24 cords together with an elastic band 10cm below last square knots worked.

Work a wrapped knot with remaining 1 x 1 metre length (as before).

Trim 24 cords to one length.

Style D

Work as for Style B.

Slip one of the smallest beads onto each cord and tie a knot to fasten.
