- '4 Seasons' Marvel 8 Ply 1 x 100g ball 1st Colour (C1-navy) Marvel Magic Print 1 x 100g ball 2nd Colour (C2-blue prints)
- 1 pair 4mm knitting needles or size required to give correct tension

TENSION
22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4mm needles.
INSTRUCTIONS
Using 4mm needles and C1, cast on 89 (91- 97-97-101) sts.
BEG RIB
1st row (RS) - K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.
2nd row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 4cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.
** BEG STRIPES
Using C2, work in stocking st for 3cm, ending with a purl row.
Using C1, work in stocking st for 3cm, ending with a purl row. **
Rep from ** to ** until work measures 14 (15- 17-18-19) cm from beg, ending with a purl row.
SHAPE CROWN
Keeping stripes correct, 1st row (RS) - * K9 (7-10-10-23), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 81 (81-89-89-97) sts. Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.
5th row - * K8 (8-9-9-10), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 73 (73-81-81-89) sts.
Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.
9th row - * K7 (7-8-8-9), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 65 (65-73-73-81) sts.
Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.
13th row - * K6 (6-7-7-8), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 57 (57-65-65-73) sts.
Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.
17th row - * K5 (5-6-6-7), K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 49 (49-57-57-65) sts.

42nd row - Purl.
Size 10 years only - 43rd row - * K1, K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 17 sts.
44th row - Purl.
All Sizes - Next row - K1, * K2tog, rep from * to end ... 9 sts.
Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.
FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side edges together to form centre back seam, matching stripes. Make a pom pom using C1 and C2 together. Make a plait approx 10cm long, using 3 groups of 2 strands each of C1 and C2 together ... 6 strands in all. Attach pom pom securely to one end of plait and then attach the other end of plait to top of hat as pictured.
