Step 1. Pre heat oven to 130C.

Step 3. Using circle and oval shapes such as a cup or lid slightly press into the clay to create an indent.

Step 4. Using a scalpel cut out your decoration shapes and set aside onto a tray.

Step 5. Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 until you have enough decorations for your tree. We made 25 ornaments.

Step 6. Once you have all your precut ornaments ready press parts of the doily into the decorations using a rolling pin to create an etched pattern on your decorations.

Step 7. Use a needle or punch tool to create a hole at the top of each decoration for hanging.

Step 8. Lay decorations on a baking tray between 2 sheets of baking paper and bake in oven for 15mins at 130C.

Step 9. Once decorations have cooled, use a small paint brush to paint in the etched pattern of the doily on the decorations. Use varying colours of gold and green, leaving
some plain white to create a variety of decorations.

Step 10. While the paint is drying make your dowel tree by cutting 2 rods into 6 varying sizes. We used increments of 10cm (10cm, 20cm, 30cm, 40cm, 50cm, 60cm)

Step 11. Use twine to tie together the 6 rods and hang on wall.

Step 12. Cut small pieces of twine and tie around each decoration securing with a knot.

Step 13. Hang your decorations on each rod to create your contemporary Christmas tree!
