Lavender Drawer Pillow Project

What you'll need

  • 112cm printed organic poplin x .15m
  • 40g loose lavender
  • Gutermann sewing thread
  • Hobby fill - scraps
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • Pinking shears
  • Pins
  • Iron
  • Ruler/tape measure

Instructions

Small Sheared edge pillows

Step 1 - Cut two 12cm squares from the fabric.

Step 2 - With wrong sides facing, pin squares together.

Step 3- Sew squares together 2cm in from the outer edges leaving a 5cm gap in the middle of one of the sides.

Step 4 - Lightly stuff the pillow with a tiny bit of Hobby Fill to desired fullness.

Step 5 - Insert loose lavender into pillow, moving in and around the Hobby Fill. Add as much lavender as you wish.

Step 6 - Pin opening closed and top stitch opening closed.

Step 7 - Trim away 5mm from around the outer raw edges of the pillow with pinking shears.

Medium Double Stitched edged pillows

Step 1 - Cut two 14cm squares from Organic Poplin fabric.

Step 2 - With right sides facing, pin squares together.

Step 3 - Sew squares together with a 1.5cm seam leaving a 5cm gap in the middle of one of the sides.

Step 4 - Clip corners and turn pillow out the right way. Press pillow flat with the opening seam allowance pressed to the inside of opening.

Step 5 - Leaving the opening edge of the pillow open, top stitch around the other three outer edges of pillow 5mm in from outer edge. Repeat another row of stitching 5mm in from the first row of stitching.

Step 6 - Lightly stuff the pillow with a tiny bit of Hobby Fill to desired fullness.

Step 7 - Insert loose lavender into pillow, moving in and around the Hobby Fill. Add as much lavender as you wish.

Step 8 - Pin opening closed and continue the double row of top stitching securing the opening closed within the stitching.

Tip - The ribbon loop can be sewn into one of the seams of the sides or pillow to create a hanging loop.
