CUTTING

Fabric A – fussy cut –

  • (4) 7 ¾” x 10” WOF strips each centered on a block.
  • (4) 10” x 7 ¾” WOF strips each centered on a block.

Fabric B – cut –

  • (1) 2 ½” x WOF strip, sub-cut (10) 2 ½” x 3 ¼” strips.

Fabric C – cut –

  • (1) 2 ½” x WOF strip, sub-cut (10) 2 ½” x 3 ¼” strips.
  • (1) 6 ½” x WOF strip, sub-cut (4) 6 ½” squares.

Fabric D – cut –

  • (2) 6 ½” x 38 ½” LOF strips.
  • (2) 6 ½” x 36 ½” WOF strips, piecing as needed.
  • (1) 11 ½” x 9 ½” WOF strip.

Fabric E cut –

  • (2) 2 ½” x WOF strips, sub-cut (20) 2 ½” x 3 ¼” strips.

Fabric F – cut–

  • (2) 2” x 35 ½” WOF strips.
  • (2) 2” x 36 ½” WOF strips.
  • (2) 1 ½” x WOF strips, sub-cut (4) 1 ½” x 11 ½” strips.

Fabric G – cut –

  • (2) 2” x WOF strips, sub-cut (8) 2” x 10” strips.
  • (3) 2” x WOF strips, sub-cut (8) 2” x 10 ¾” strips.
  • (2) 2” x WOF strips, sub-cut (8) 2” x 7 ¾” strips.
  • (3) 2” x WOF strips, sub-cut (8) 2” x 13” strips.
  • (5) 2 ½” x WOF strips for the binding

Backing – cut –

  • (2) 56” x WOF strips. Sew the strips together and trim to 56” x 58” to make the back.

SEWING

Sew using a ¼” seam allowance with right sides together (RST) unless otherwise indicated. Always press towards the darker fabric while assembling, unless otherwise noted by the arrows.

BLOCK ASSEMBLY

Step 1 – Sew (1) 2” x 10” Fabric G strip to each side of (1) 7 ¾” x 10” Fabric A block.

Sew (1) 2” x 10 ¾” Fabric G strip to the top and to the bottom of the Fabric A block.

Trim the unit to measure 9 ½” x 11 ½” to make (1) Unit 1 rectangle (Fig. 1). Repeat to make (4) Unit 1 rectangles total.

Step 2 – Sew (1) 2” x 7 ¾” Fabric G strip to each side of (1) 10” x 7 ¾” Fabric A block. Sew (1) 2” x 13” Fabric G strip to the top and to the bottom of the Fabric A block. Trim the unit to measure 11 ½” x 9 ½” to make (1) Unit 2 rectangle (Fig. 2). Repeat to make (4) Unit 2 rectangles total.

Step 3 – Sew (1) 1 ½” x 11 ½” Fabric F strip to each side of (1) 9 ½” x 11 ½” Fabric D strip. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 11 ½” Fabric F strip to the top and to the bottom of the Fabric D strip to make (1) Unit 3 rectangle (Fig. 3).

Step 4 – Sew together (1) 2 ½” x 3 ¼” Fabric C strip, (1) 2 ½” x 3 ¼” Fabric E strip, (1) 2 ½” x 3 ¼” Fabric B strip and (1) 2 ½” x 3 ¼” Fabric E strip, end to end and in that order, to make (1) Unit 4 strip. Repeat to make (10) Unit 4 strips total.

Step 5 – Sew (1) Unit 4 strip to the top of (1) Unit 2 rectangle. Sew (1) Unit 4 strip to each side of the Unit 2 rectangle. Sew (1) Unit 1 rectangle to each end of the newly sewn strip to make Row One (Fig. 5).

Step 6 – Sew (1) Unit 4 strip to the top and to the bottom of (1) Unit 2 rectangle. Repeat with a second Unit 2 rectangle. Sew (1) newly sewn block to each side of (1) Unit 3 rectangle to make Row Two (Fig. 6).

Step 7 – Sew (1) Unit 4 strip to the bottom of (1) Unit 2 rectangle. Sew (1) Unit 4 strip to each side of the newly sewn block. Sew (1) Unit 1 rectangle to each end of the newly sewn strip to make Row Three (Fig. 7).

QUILT TOP ASSEMBLY

(Follow the Quilt Layout while assembling the quilt top.)

Step 8 – Sew together the (3) Rows, in numerical order, to make the Center Block.

Step 9 – Sew (1) 2” x 35 ½” Fabric F strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 2” x 36 ½” Fabric F strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

Step 10 – Sew (1) 6 ½” x 38 ½” Fabric D strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 6 ½” Fabric C square to each end of (1) 6 ½” x 36 ½” Fabric D strip. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the newly sewn strips to the top and to the bottom of the Center

Block to make the quilt top.

LAYERING, QUILTING & FINISHING

Step 11 – Press the quilt top and 56” x 58” backing well. Layer backing (wrong side up), batting, pressed quilt top (right side up) and baste. Quilt as desired and trim excess batting and backing when quilting is complete.

BINDING

Step 12 – Cut the ends of the (5) Fabric G Binding strips at a 45-degree angle and sew end to end to make (1) continuous piece of binding. Fold in half lengthwise and press wrong sides together.

Step 13 – Sew the binding to the front of the quilt, raw edges together. Turn the folded edge to the back, and hand stitch in place.
