White Square Block x 18

Cut 18 - 4.5 x 4.5 inch white squares

Cut - 72 - 4.5 x 2.5 inch colour rectangle

Cut - 72 - 2.5 x 2.5 inch white squares

Cut - 72 - 2.5 x 7 colour inches

Assemble blocks beginning with inner 4.5 x 4.5 inch white square sewn to the co-ordinating 4.5 x 2.5 inch rectangles.

Sew the remaining 2.5 x 2.5 inch white squares to the 2.5 x 7 inch strips which form the outer strips for the blocks.

Place these in their correct direction and sew to the inner square blocks. Once all blocks have been made up, press and neaten off edging and sew these first in blocks of 4 and then into their larger blocks to form the inner large square of the quilt.

Join 3.5 inch white strips around the large inner square block.

Depending on fabric chosen for the remaining large bordered edge you may want to mitre the corners in to set off the fabric if it has a border effect to it.

If you decided to mitre corners you will need to allow for extra fabric to overlap each corner.

When joining mitred corners sew to within a quarter inch of edge lay one fabric underneath straight and with the other fabric fold it in from underneath on an angle until you have met the fabric evenly along the pattern. Press the fabric firmly so it give you a clear line to sew along, pin and sew into place.

Sandwich and quilt.
