TENSION

21 sts and 30 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4.50mm needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

BACK

Using 4.50mm needles and C1, cast on 107 (117-129-139) sts.

Beg Rib - 1st row (RS) - K2, P1, K1, rep from to last st, K1.

2nd row - K1, P1, K1, rep from to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 2.5cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Using C1, work 2cm in stocking st, ending with a purl row.

Beg Stripe Patt - Using C2, Next row - Knit.

Next row - Purl.

Next row - K1, P1, K1, rep from to end.

Next row - Purl.

Rep last 4 rows 4 times more.

Using C1, work 2cm in stocking st, ending with a purl row.

Using C3, knit 5cm in garter st, working last row on WS.

Using C4, knit 5cm in garter st, working last row on WS.

Using C2, work 2cm in stocking st, ending with a purl row.

Using C3, work 5cm in stocking st, ending with a purl row.

Using C1, work 2cm in stocking st, ending with a purl row.

Using C3, work 3cm in stocking st, ending with a purl row.

Rep from to for stripe patt throughout.

Cont in patt until work measures 37cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes as there is no armhole shaping.

Work a further 64 (66-68-70) rows stripe patt.

Shape Shoulders - Cast off 8 (9-10-11) sts at beg of next 6 rows, then 8 (9-11-12) sts at beg of foll 2 rows.

Cast off rem 43 (45-47-49) sts loosely.


LEFT FRONT

Using 4.50mm needles and C1, cast on 53 (57-63-69) sts.

Beg Rib - Work in rib as for lower band of Back until work measures 2.5cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Using C1, work 2cm in stocking st, ending with a purl row.

Beg Stripe Patt - Work in stripe patt as for back until work measures same as Back to coloured threads, ending with same patt row.

Tie a coloured thread at end of last row to mark beg of armhole and front slope.

Shape Front Slope - Keeping patt correct, dec one st at end (front edge) of next row, then in every foll alt row until 46 (51-56-59) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 34 (38-43-47) sts rem.

Work 3 rows.

Shape Shoulder - Cast off 8 (9-10-11) sts at beg of next row, then in every foll alt row twice, AT SAME TIME dec one st at front edge in next row and foll 4th row.

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 8 (9-11-12) sts.


RIGHT FRONT

Work as for Left Front to .

Tie a coloured thread at beg of last row to mark beg of armhole and front slope.

Shape Front Slope - Keeping patt correct, dec one st at beg (front edge) of next row, then in every foll alt row until 46 (51-56-59) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 33 (37-42-46) sts rem.

Shape Shoulder - Cast off 8 (9-10-11) sts at beg of next row, then in every foll alt row twice, AT SAME TIME dec one st at front edge in foll 4th row.

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 8 (9-11-12) sts.


SLEEVES

Using 4mm needles and C1, cast on 47 (51- 57-63) sts.

Beg Rib - Work in rib as for lower band of Back until work measures 2.5cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Change to 4.50mm needles.

Using C1, work 2cm in stockcing st, ending with a purl row, AT SAME TIME inc one st at each end of 3rd row ... 49 (53-59-65) sts.

Beg Stripe Patt - Work in stripe patt as for Back, inc one st at each end of 3rd row, then in every foll 4th row until there are 85 (95-107-113) sts, sizes S and M only - then in every foll 6th row until there are 93 (99) sts.

All Sizes - Cont in stripe patt without shaping until work measures 40cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Using colour from previous row, cast off loosely.


LEFT FRONT BAND

Using mattress st, join shoulder seams. Using 4mm needles and C1, cast on 7 sts.

1st row (RS) - K2, (P1, K1) twice, K1.

2nd row - K1, (P1, K1) 3 times.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until band fits (slightly stretched) evenly along left front edge to beg of front slope shaping, along front slope shaping to shoulder, then across half of back neck, ending with a 2nd row, noting to sew front band in position as you go. Cast off in rib.

Place markers for position of 5 buttons evenly along left front band, placing 1st marker 2cm from lower edge and 5th marker 2cm below beg of front slope shaping and rem markers evenly in between.


RIGHT FRONT BAND

Work to correspond with Left Front Band, working buttonholes level on RS rows with each marker on Left Front Band as follows - Rib 3, yrn to make a st, rib 2tog, rib 2.


FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeves to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams, matching stripes. Sew on buttons.
