Tension

28 sts x 28 rows to 10cm over rib patt, using 4mm needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

BACK

Using 3.25mm needles and C, cast on 121 (135-149-163) sts.

Beg lower band -

1st row (RS) - P0 (1-2-0), K1, * P2, K1, rep from * to last 0 (1-2-0) sts, P0 (1-2-0).

2nd row - K0 (1-2-0), P1, * K2, P1, rep from * to last 0 (1-2-0) st/s.

Last 2 rows form rib.

Work in rib until work measures 5cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Change to 4mm needles.

Keeping rib correct, work 32 rows in stripes of (8 rows M and 8 rows C) twice.

Working in M only for rem, cont in rib until work measures 35cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Shape armholes -

Keeping rib correct, cast off 6 (8-10-12) sts at beg of next 2 rows ... 109 (119-129-139) sts.

Dec one st at each end of every row until 103 (113-119-129) sts rem, then in every foll alt row until 97 (103-107-117) sts rem.

Cont in rib until armholes measure 9 (10-10.5-11.5) cm, working last row on WS. **

Work a further 34 (34-34-36) rows rib.

Shape shoulders -

Keeping rib correct, cast off 10 (11-11-12) sts loosely in rib at beg of next 4 rows, then 11 (10-11-12) sts loosely in at beg of foll 2 rows.

Leave rem 35 (39-41-45) sts on a stitch-holder for V neckband.

FRONT

Work as for Back to **.

Divide for V neck -

1st row (RS) - Rib 48 (51-53-58), turn.

Cont on these 48 (51-53-58) sts for left side of V neck.

*** Keeping rib correct, dec one st at neck edge in every row until 44 (43-43-46) sts rem, then in every foll alt row until 31 (32-33-36) sts rem.

Work 3 rows rib.

Shape shoulder -

Cast off 10 (11-11-12) sts loosely in rib at beg of next row, then in foll alt row.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 11 (10-11-12) sts loosely in rib. ***

Slip next st (centre st) onto a coloured thread and leave for V neckband.

With RS facing, join yarn to rem sts and rib to end.

Cont on these 48 (51-53-58) sts for right side of V neck.

Rep from *** to ***, working 1 more row before shoulder shaping.

SLEEVES

Using 3.25mm needles and C, cast on 61 (63-63-65) sts.

Beg cuff -

1st row (RS) - P0 (1-1-2), K1, * P2, K1, rep from * to last 0 (1-1-2) st/s, P0 (1-1-2).

2nd row - K0 (1-1-2), P1, * K2, P1, rep from * to last 0 (1-1-2) st/s, K0 (1-1-2).

Last 2 rows form rib.

Cont in rib until cuff measures 5cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Change to 4mm needles.

Keeping rib correct, work 32 rows in stripes of (8 rows M and 8 rows C) twice, AT SAME TIME working extra sts into rib, inc one st at each end of 5th row, then in every foll 6th (4th-4th-alt) row 1 (5-6-7) more time/s, sizes S, M and XL only - then in every foll 8th (6th-4th) row 2 (1-3) time/s.

All sizes ... 69 (77-77-87) sts.

Using M only for rem, inc one st at each end of 3rd (5th-next-3rd) row, then in every foll 8th (6th-4th-4th) row until there are 85 (97-99-117) sts, Size L only - then in every foll 6th row until there are 105 sts.

All sizes ... 85 (97-105-117) sts.

Cont in rib until sleeve measures 43cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Shape top -

Keeping rib correct, cast off 3 (4-5-6) sts at beg of next 2 rows ... 79 (89-95-105) sts.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 63 (79-87-101) sts rem, then in every row until 13 (13-13-15) sts rem.

Cast off loosely in rib.

V NECKBAND

Using mattress st, join right shoulder seam. With RS facing, using 3.25mm needles and C, knit up 34 (34-34-36) sts evenly along left side of neck, K1 from coloured thread (centre st), knit up 34 (34-34-36) sts evenly along right side of neck, then knit across sts from back stitch-holder as folls - rib 2 (0-1-3), (work 2tog, rib 2) 7 (9-9-9) times, work 2 tog, rib 3 (1-2-4) ... 96 (98-100-108) sts.

1st row (WS) - * K1, P1, rep from * to end.

2nd row - Rib to within 2 sts of centre st, ybk, sl 1, K1, psso, K1 (centre st), K2tog, rib to end.

3rd row - Rib to within 2 sts of centre st, K2tog, P1, K2tog tbl, rib to end.

Rep 2nd and 3rd rows 3 times more ... 9 rows rib in all.

Cast off loosely in rib.

FINISHING

Do not press. Using mattress st, join left shoulder and neckband seam. Join side and sleeve seams matching stripes. Sew in sleeves.
