O'GO BEGINNER CROCHET HAT

Instructions

Notes:

• To begin working with the O'Go format, carefully cut plastic tie where the ends of the O'Go meet. Pull tie to remove and start work. Colours can be easily separated by gently pulling apart and cutting at the colour transition. Each colour is ready to use. All rounds (rnds) are joined with slip stitch (sl st) to first stitch (st).

Chain (ch) 2 at beginning (beg) of rnd does not count as st.

Ribbing: Ch 11.

1st row: 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 dc in each ch to end of chain. Turn. 10 dc.

2nd row: Ch 1. 1 dc in back loop only (dcbl) of each st to end of row. Turn.

Rep 2nd row until work from beg measures 56cm when slightly stretched.

Join last row and first row together (tog) with 1 row of sl st to form tube.

Begin working in rnds:

1st rnd: (RS). Ch 1. Working alongside edge of ribbing, work 54 dc evenly around. Join with sl st to first dc. Place marker at end of rnd.

2nd rnd: Ch 2. 1 htr in each st around. Join.

Rep 2nd rnd until work from lower edge measures 18 cm.

Beg shaping crown:

1st rnd: Ch 2. *1 htr in each of next 4 sts. Htr next 2 sts tog (htr2tog). Rep from * around. Join. 45 sts.

2nd rnd: Ch 2. *1 htr in each of next 3 sts. Htr2tog. Rep from * around. Join. 36 sts.

3rd rnd: Ch 2. *1 htr in each of next 2 sts. Htr2tog. Rep from * around. Join. 27 sts.

4th rnd: Ch 2. *1 htr in next st. Htr2tog. Rep from * around. Join. 18 sts.

5th rnd: Ch 2. *Htr2tog. Rep from * around. Join. 9 sts.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Draw end through remaining (rem) sts and secure tightly.

Pompom: With strands of any unused shades held together, either use a pom pom maker or wind yarn around 4 fingers approx 100 times in total. Remove from fingers and tie tightly in centre. Cut through each side of loops. Trim to a smooth round shape. Sew pompom to top of hat.
