WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Radish

  • "4 Seasons" Pure Wool 8ply 50g x 1 ball each 1st Colour (C1) White, 2nd Colour (C2) Red and 3rd Colour (C3) Green.
  • A 3.50mm crochet hook.
  • Hobby Fill.
  • Stitch marker, scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

Carrot

  • "4 Seasons" Pure Wool 8ply 50g x 1 ball each 1st Colour (C1) Orange and 2nd Colour (C2) Green.
  • One pair 3mm knitting needles.
  • One 2.50mm crochet hook.
  • Hobby Fill.
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

Leek

  • "4 Seasons" Pure Wool 8ply 50g x 1 ball each 1st Colour (C1) White, 2nd Colour (C2) Light Green and 3rd Colour (C3) Dark
    Green.
  • One pair each 3mm and 3.25mm knitting needles.
  • A Cardboard tube from the centre of a paper towel roll.
  • Hobby Fill.
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

Eggplant

  • "4 Seasons" Pure Wool 8ply 50g x 1 ball each 1st Colour (C1) Purple and 2nd Colour (C2) Green.
  • One pair 3mm knitting needles and 1 pair 3mm double pointed knitting needles.
  • Hobby Fill
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

SIZE

  • Radish - Circumference (approx finished): 10cm
  • Carrot - Length (approx excluding leaves): 15cm
  • Leek - Circumference (approx finished): 16cm, Height (approx): 25 cm
  • Eggplant - Length (approx excluding leaves): 15cm

TENSION

Correct tension is not essential for this item.

Note - This item has been worked on smaller hook than normally




INSTRUCTIONS

RADISH

Using 3.50mm hook and C1 make 2ch,

Note - This item is worked in continuous rounds. Do not join at the end of each round, but continue to next st, working in a spiral
and using a stitch marker to mark the first st of each round.

1st round - Work 4dc in 2nd ch from hook ... 4dc.
2nd round - (1dc in next st, 2dc in next st) twice ... 6dc. Break off C1. Using C2 for rem, 3rd round - As 2nd round ... 9dc.
4th round - 2dc in each dc to end ... 18dc.
5th round - 1dc in each dc to end. Rep last round 4 times
10th round - (Dc2tog) 9 times ... 9sts. Fill firmly with hobby fill, moulding to shape.
11th round - (Dc3tog) 3 times ... 3sts. Fasten off.

LEAVES (make 3)

Using 3.50mm hook and C3, make 20ch.

1st round - Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each of next 9ch, (1htr, 1tr,1dtr,1tr,1htr) in next ch, miss 1ch , rep from to 3 times, (1htr,1tr, 1dtr, 1tr, 1htr) in last ch, working along other side of ch miss 1ch, (1htr, 1tr, 1dtr, 1tr, 1htr) in next ch , rep from to 3 times, sl st in each ch to end. Fasten off leaving a long end.

Make a further 2 leaves in same manner.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using long ends left from each leaf, sew leaves securely in position to top of radish as pictured.

CARROT

Using 3mm needles and C1, cast on 3 sts leaving a long end. Work 2 rows stocking st.

Next row - K1, inc in next st, K1 ... 4 sts. Work 3 rows stocking st.
Next row - K1, inc in each of next 2 sts, K1 ... 6 sts. Work 3 rows stocking st.
Next row - K1, inc in each of next 4 st, K1 ... 10 sts. Work 5 rows stocking st
Next row - K1, (inc in next st, K2) 3 times ... 13 sts. Work 7 rows stocking st
Next row - K1, (inc in next st, K3) 3 times ... 16 sts. Work 9 rows stocking st.
Next row - K1, (inc in next st, K4) 3 times ... 19 sts. Work 11 rows stocking st.
Next row - K1, (inc in next st, K5) 3 times ... 22 sts. Work 3 rows stocking st.
Next row - K1, (sl 1, K2tog, psso) 7 times ... 8 sts.
Next row - Purl.
Using C2, Next row - K1, (K2tog) 3 times, K1 ... 5 sts.
Next row - Purl.

Break off yarn leaving a long end. Thread yarn through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

LEAVES

Using 2.75mm hook, join C2 to top of carrot.
1st row - 10ch, sl st in 6th ch from hook, (12ch, sl st in 10th ch from hook) twice, 14ch, sl st in 12th ch from hook, 12ch, sl st in same place as last sl st, working along other side of ch, (sl st in each of next 2ch, 10ch, sl st in same place as next sl st) twice, sl st in each of next 2ch, 6ch, sl st in same place as next sl st, sl st in each of next 4ch, sl st into top
of carrot. Fasten off securely.

Rep from to twice more ... 3 leaves in all. Wind a length of C2 firmly around base of leaves as pictured and fasten off securely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Beg at tip of carrot and using half mattress st, join side edges of carrot together, filling with hobby fill as you go and moulding to shape.

LEEK

Using 3mm needles and C1, cast on one st.

1st row - (K1, P1, K1, P1, K1) all in the one st ... 5 sts.
2nd row - Purl.
3rd row - Inc knitways in each st ... 10 sts.
4th row - Purl.
5th row - (K1, inc in next st) 5 times ... 15 sts.
6th row - Purl.
7th row - (K1, inc in next st) 7 times, K1 ... 22 sts.
8th row - Purl.
9th row - (K1, inc in next st, K1) 7 times, K1 ... 29 sts.
10th row - Purl.
11th row - (K1, inc in next st, K2) 7 times, K1 ... 36 sts.

Cont in stocking st beg with a purl row, until work measures 10cm from beg, ending with a purl row. Change to 3.25mm needles.

Note - When working in fair isle, do not weave colours but carry colour not in use loosely across on WS of work. Always carry C1 above C2, C2 above C3 and always carry colours to end of row, catching in at side edge.

Next row - K1C1, K1C2, rep from to end.
Next row - P1C1, P1C2, rep from to end. Rep last 2 rows once. Change to 3mm needles. Using C2, cont in stocking st until work measures 17cm from beg, ending with a purl row. Change to 3.25mm needles.
Next row - K1C2, K1C3, rep from to end.
Next row - P1C2, P1C3, rep from to end. Rep last 2 rows once. Change to 3mm needles. Using C3, work 6 rows stocking st.

Shape Top -

Cast on 6 sts, K18, turn.

Next row - K3, P12, K3, turn.
Next row - K18, turn.

Rep last 2 rows until work measures 5cm, from cast on, working last row on WS. Knit 4 rows garter st. Cast off.
Rep from to twice more.

INNER LEAVES

Using 3.25mm needles and C3, cast on 72 sts. Knit 8 rows garter st.

Divide For Leaves -

1st row (RS) - K18, turn. Cont on these 18 sts until work measures 6cm from divide. Cast off loosely.
Rep from to 3 more times ... 4 leaves in all.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side edges of Leek tog to form a tube, beg at base and ending at cast on for leaves. Using C3, slip st 6 sts cast on for each leaf in position on WS so leaves overlap. Cut cardboard tube to 15cm in length and insert
into Leek. Fill Leek with hobby fill to end of cardboard roll. Roll inner leaves up, slip stitching lower edges together as you go.
Slip stitch, inner leaves in position to Ws of top of Leek as pictured. Cut several 10cm lengths of C1 and using yarn needle thread each length through the bottom of the Leek and knot securely. Unravel each length of yarn as pictured.

EGGPLANT

Using 3mm needles and C1, cast on one st.

1st row - (K1, P1, K1, P1) all in the st ... 5 sts.
2nd row - Purl.
3rd row - Inc knitways in each st ... 10 sts.
4th row - Purl.
5th row - Inc knitways in each st to end ... 20 sts. Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.
9th row - K1, (inc in next st, K3) 4 times, inc in next st, K2 ... 25 sts. Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.
15th row - K1, (inc in next st, K4) 4 times, inc in next st, K3 ... 30 sts. Work 7 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.
23rd row - K1, (inc in next st, K5) 4 times, inc in next st, K4 ... 35 sts. Work 9 rows stocking st.
33rd row - K1, (inc in next st, K6) 4 times, inc in next st, K5 ... 40 sts.
34th row - Purl.
35th row - K1, (inc in next st, K7) 4 times, inc in next st, K6 ... 45 sts.
36th row - Purl.
37th row - K1, (inc in next st, K8) 4 times, inc in next st, K7 ... 50 sts. Work 11 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.
49th row - K1, (K2tog, K8) 4 times, K2tog, K7 ... 45 sts. Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.
55th row - K1, (K2tog, K7) 4 times, K2tog, K6 ... 40 sts. Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.
59th row - K1, (K2tog, K6) 4 times, K2tog, K5 ... 35 sts.
60th row - Purl.
61st row - K1 (K2tog, K5) 4 times, K2tog, K4 ... 30 sts.
62nd row - Purl.
63rd row - K1, (K2tog, K4) 4 times, K2tog, K3 ... 25 sts.
64th row - Purl.
65th row - K1 (K2tog, K2) 4 times, K2tog, K2 ... 20 sts.
66th row - (P2tog) 10 times.

Break off yarn leaving a long end. Thread yarn through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

LEAVES & STEM

Using 3mm needles and C2, cast on 37 sts leaving a long end.

1st row (RS) - (K1, yfwd, K4, sl 1, K2tog, psso, K4, yfwd) 3 times K1.
2nd row - (P1, yrn, P4, sl 1, P2tog, psso, P4, yrn) 3 times, P1.
3rd row - (K5, sl 1, K2tog, psso, K4) 3 times, K1 ... 31 sts.
4th row - (P4, sl 1, P2tog, psso, P3) 3 times, P1 ... 25 sts.
5th row - (K3, sl 1, K2tog, psso, K2) 3 times, K1 ... 19 sts.
6th row - (P2, sl 1, P2tog, psso, P1) 3 times, P1 ... 13 sts.
7th row - (K1, sl 1, K2tog, psso) 3 times, K1 ... 7 sts.

Slip 7 sts onto a double pointed 3mm needle so RS is facing for next row.

Beg i-cord -

Pulling yarn firmly across back of work, 1st row (RS) - K2tog, K5, do not turn ... 6 sts.
Slip sts to other end of needle, pull yarn firmly across back of work and rep 1st row twice ... 4 sts.
Next row - Slip sts to other end of needle, pull yarn firmly across back of work, K4.
Rep last row 5 times. Cast off.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using half mattress st and beg at base of eggplant join side edges together, filling with hobby fill and moulding to shape as you go. Using long end left on leaves and stem, join straight side edges of leaves together. Place leaves on top of eggplant and slip st lower edges of leaves in position.
