GELATO UNICORN CROCHET CUSHION

LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• 'Moda Vera' Gelato 50g x 5 balls Main Colour (M) White, 1 ball each of 1st Contrast (C1) Pink, 2nd Contrast (C2) Magenta, 3rd Contrast (C3) Yellow and 4th Contrast (C4) Black.
• 4.50mm and a 5mm crochet hook, or sizesrequired to give correct tension.
• A stitch-marker.
• 50 x 50cm cushion insert.
• Small piece of felt for eyes
• Hobby fill.
• Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

MEASUREMENTS

Finished product will be approx. W50cm x H50cm.

TENSION

18dc to 10cm over double crochet fabric, using a 4.50mm hook.

INSTRUCTIONS

CUSHION

Using 4.50mm hook and M, make 81ch.

1st row - 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end, turn � 80dc.

2nd row - 2ch, 1dc into each st to end, turn.

Rep2nd row until work measures 90cm from beg.

Fasten off.

HORN

Using 2 strands of C3 tog, make a magic ring.

Using 5mm hook and 2 strands of C3 tog throughout,1st round - 3ch, 6tr into magic ring, join to top of beg 3ch with sl st, pull ring closed � 6tr, do not count 3ch.

2nd round - 3ch, 1tr in each tr, join to top of beg 3ch with sl st.

3rd round - 3ch,* 1tr in next st, 2tr in next st, rep from * to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st � 9tr.

4th round - 3ch, 1tr in each tr to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st.

5th round - 3ch, * 1tr in each of next 2 sts, 2tr into next st, rep from * to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st � 12tr.

6th round - 3ch, 1tr in each tr to end, join totop of beg 3ch with a sl st.

7th round - 3ch,* 1tr in each of next 2 sts, 2tr into next st, rep from * to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st � 15tr.

8th round - 3ch, 1tr in each tr to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st.

9th round - 3ch,* 1tr in each of next 4 sts, 2tr into next st, rep from * to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st � 18tr.

10th round - 3ch, 1tr in each tr to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st.

11th round- 1tr, * 1tr in each of next 5 sts, 2tr into next st, rep from * to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st � 21tr.

12th round - 3ch, 1tr in each tr to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st.

13th round - 1tr, * 1tr in each of next 6 sts, 2tr into next st, rep from * to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st � 24tr.

14th round - 3ch, 1tr in each tr to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st.

Fasten off.

Stuff the horn firmly with hobby fill, and then sew the bottom closed.

EARS (make two)

Using 2 strands of M tog, make a magic ring.

Using 5mm hook and 2 strands of M tog throughout,1st round - 3ch, 8tr in magic ring, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st, pull ring closed � 8tr, do not count 3ch.

2nd round - 3ch, 1tr in each st, to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st.

3rd round - 3ch, * 1tr in next st, 2tr in next st, rep from * to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st � 12tr.

4th round - 3ch, * 1tr in each of next 2 sts, 2tr in next st rep from * to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st � 16tr.

5th round - 3ch, * 1tr in each of next 3 sts, 2tr in next st, rep from * to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st � 20tr.

6th round - 3ch, * 1tr in each st to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st � 20tr.

7th round - 3ch, * 1tr in each of next 4 sts, 2tr in next st, rep from * to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st � 24tr.

8th round - 3ch, * 1tr in each of next 5 sts, 2tr in next st, rep from * to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st � 28tr.

9th round - 3ch, * 1tr in each st to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st.

10th round - 3ch, * 1tr in each st to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st.

11th round - 3ch, * 1tr in each of next 5 sts, dec, rep from * to end, join to top of beg 3ch with a sl st � 24tr.

INNER EAR (make two)

Using 5mm hook and 2 strands of C1 tog, make 2ch.

1st row - 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, turn � 1dc.

2nd row - 2ch, 2dc in next st, turn � 2dc.

3rd row - 2ch, 2dc in each st, turn � 4dc.

4th row - 2ch, 2dc in first st, 1dc in each of next two dc, 2dc in last dc, turn � 6dc.

5th row - 2ch, 2dc in first st, 1dc in each of next four dc, 2dc in last dc, turn � 8dc.

6th row- 2ch, 2dc in first st, 1dc in each of next six dc, 2dc in last dc, turn � 10dc.

7th row - 2ch, 2dc in first st, 1dc in each of next eight dc, 2dc into last dc, turn � 12dc.

8th row - 2ch, 1dc in each st, turn. Rep 8th row 5 more times.

14th row - 2ch, dec, 1dc in each st to last two sts, dec, turn � 10dc.

15th row - 2ch, 1dc in each st to end.

FLOWERS

Using 5mm hook and 2 strands of C1 tog, make 39ch.

1st row - 4tr in the 3rd ch from hook, * miss 2ch, 5tr in next ch, rep from * to end, turn � 13 petals.

2nd row- * 3ch, 2tr in same st, 2tr in each of next 3 sts, * 3ch, sl st in next st (1 completed petal), sl st in next st, 3ch, 2tr in same st, 2tr in each of next 3 sts, rep from * to * to end � 13 petals. Roll the petals to form the flowers and sew securely at base of flowers.

Make a further 2 flowers, using C2.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using back stitch and C5, embroider eyes onto front of Cushion as pictured. Fold cushion in half and using mattress st, join side edges together to form pocket. Place cushion insert in pocket and using mattress st, join top seam. Sew the horn to the centre of the top of the cushion as pictured. Sew inner ears in position to outer ears and sew ears in position to top of cushion as pictured. Sew flowers onto front of cushion as pictured. Cut felt to shape of closed eyes as picture and attach.
