MACRAME CAT HAMMOCK

Macrame Cat Hammock Project

Level: Easy

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • SEMCO Recycled Macrame Cord (Natural) 65.6M or 2 Rolls
  • ARBEE Galvanised Ring 350mm
  • ARBEE Galvanised Ring 175mm
  • Split Ring
  • Adhesive Tape
  • Scissors
  • Measuring Tape

INSTRUCTIONS

Tip: SEMCO Recycled Macrame Cord will fray easily, this allows for beautiful finishing however shouldn't be encouraged until the project is finished. We recommend measuring the length required, tape the cord at this mark, then cut through the middle of the tape so both ends are taped

  1. Begin by working the upper section of the hammock. Cut 4 lengths x 450cm, 8 lengths x 550cm and 1 length of 80cm, ensure all ends are taped to prevent fraying
  2. Fold 12 lengths (in 450cm and 550cm) through the split ring in half. Using the 80cm length make a wrapped knot under the split ring around all (24) cords
  3. Divide the cords into 4 sections of 6 cords comprising of 2 short and 4 long lengths in each section
  4. Make 4 SK
  5. Divide the cords again and adjust so the shorter cords are in the middle and the longer lengths are on the outside, measure approx. 16.5cm from the base of the last SK and create a lark head knot on the 175mm ring.
  6. Using the 2 longer cords on each side, make 19 SK on each section, do this on all 4 sections, working opposing ends and adjust to ensure this is even - this should measure approx. 38cm from the 175mm ring
  7. Now work the basket section of the hammock. Cut 16 lengths of 250cm, ensure all ends are taped to prevent fraying
  8. Fold each length in half then create a lark head knot on the 350mm ring, cut and tape the middle (or new end)
  9. Ensure all lengths are spread evenly around the ring, beginning approx. 30mm from the ring create alternating rows of SK using 2 lengths, repeat all the way round
  10. Repeat [Step 9] 5 times, you should have 6 rows of alternating SK
  11. Cut 120cm of cord taping both ends, create a wrapped knot to secure the bottom of the basket tightly below the last row of SK
  12. Connect the upper section to the basket by creating a lark head knot at the end of the 19 SK to the 350mm ring, ensure that they are evenly spaced around the basket. Work 1 SK to secure using 1 longer cord from each side. Work on opposing sides and adjust to make the project level
  13. Cut 4 lengths of 40cm cord and create a Wrap Knot around each SK
  14. Finish the hammock by trimming excess cord and fray to your liking under each Wrap Knot

Tip: Your cat may like a cushion in his/her basket, you can fill an old cushion with some lightly packed Hobby Fill to make them extra cosy
