WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • "4 Seasons" Spot Saver Prints 140g balls x 2, 2, 3
  • 1 pair each of 5.00mm, 5.50mm and 1 set each of 5.00mm and 5.50mm knitting needles or size required to give correct tension.
  • 2 stitch-holders, Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

Actual Size (cm): 56 (2 years), 61 (4 years), 66 (6 years)
Length - Back (cm): 40 (2 years), 44 (4 years), 48 (6 years)
Length - Front (cm): 36 (2 years), 40 (4 years), 44 (6 years)

TENSION

17 sts x 23 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 5.00mm needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

BACK

Using 5.50mm needles, cast on 62 (66-70) sts.

Beg Rib

1st row - K2, P2, K2, rep from to end.

2nd row - P2, K2, P2, rep from to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 6cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Change to 5.00mm needles.

Beg Side Shaping

1st row - K2, sl 1, K1, psso, knit to last 4 sts, K2tog, K2 ... 60 (64-68) sts.

2nd row - Purl.

Working in stocking st and dec one st at each end (as before) of 5th (5th-7th) row, then in every foll 6th (6th-8th) row until 56 (56-64) sts rem, then in every foll 4th (4th-6th) row until 48 (52-56) sts rem.

Cont without further dec until work measures 24 (27-30) cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Shape Armholes

Cast off 3 (3-4) sts, at beg of next 2 rows ... 42 (46-48) sts.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 36 (40-42) sts rem.

Cont without further shaping until armhole measures 16 (17-18) cm ending with a purl row.

Shape Shoulders -

Cast off 6 (7-7) sts, at beg of next 2 rows.

Leave rem 24 (26-28) sts on a stitch holder for collar.


FRONT

Using 5.50mm needles, cast on 62 (66-70) sts.

Beg Rib

1st row - K2, P2, K2, rep from to end.

2nd row - P2, K2, P2, rep from to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 4cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Change to 5.00mm needles.

Beg Side Shaping

1st row - K2, sl 1, K1, psso, knit to last 4 sts, K2tog, K2 ... 60 (64-68) sts.

2nd row - Purl.

Working in stocking st and dec one st at each end (as before) of 5th (5th-7th) row, then in every foll 6th (6th-8th) row until 56 (56-64) sts rem, then in every foll 4th (4th-6th) row until 48 (52-56) sts rem.

Cont without further dec until work measures 20 (23-26) cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Shape Armholes

Cast off 3 (3-4) sts, at beg of next 2 rows ... 42 (46-48) sts.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 36 (40-42) sts rem.

Cont without further shaping until armhole measures 11 (12-13) cm ending with a purl row.

Shape Neck

Next row (RS) - K12 (13-13), turn.

Cont on these 12 (13-13) sts for left side of neck shaping.

Dec one st at neck edge in every row until 8 (9-9) sts rem, then in every foll alt row until 6 (7-7) sts rem.

Cont without further shaping until armhole measures 16 (17-18) cm ending with a purl row.

Shape Shoulder

Cast off rem 6 (7-7) sts.

Slip next 12 (14-16) sts onto a stitch-holder and leave for collar.

With RS facing, join yarn to rem 12 (13-13) sts, knit to end.

Cont on these 12 (13-13) sts for right side of neck shaping.

Rep from to .


COLLAR

Using mattress st, join shoulder seams. Using a set of 5.00mm needles and beg at left shoulder seam, knit up 12 sts along neck shaping to front stitch holder, knit across 12 (14-16) sts from front neck stich holder, knit up 12 sts evenly along right side of front neck shaping, knit across 24 (26-28) sts from back neck stitch-holder ... 60 (64-68) sts.

1st round - K1, P1, rep from to end.

Rep last round until work measures 6cm from beg.

Change to a set of 5.50mm needles.

Cont in rib until work measures 16cm from beg.

Cast off loosely in rib.


ARMHOLE BANDS

Join side seams, noting that back is longer than front. With right side facing, using a set of 5.00mm needles, knit up 66 (72-78) sts evenly along armhole edge.

Work in rib, as given for collar, until work measures 2.5cm from beg.

Cast off loosely in rib.

Work other armhole band in same manner.


FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Sew in ends.
